to me this is about an attraction to someone that doesn't go anywhere because he is too shy to make a bold move, and is trying to persuade himself to be brave and go for it! The first verse is him telling himself it will all be better if he goes for it and 'gets the girl', saying it'll help him kip the drugs/alcoholism/grumpiness (violence?) I'll say it now because i want it now is self explanitory, telling himself to say how he feels if he wants to get what he wants. Personality is scarred tissue i think means that his personality is a bit 'dead' and he needs to brighten up to get the girl. Subtle and catious describe his actions towards the girl, may go unnoticed so she doesn't know he likes her. Take hold of your time here, give meanings to the means is about taking a chance, don't want to leave emptyhanded. 2nd verse, longing, erring, caution, silence, tremble all again suggest his shyness. warmth of my sincerity could be friendly jokes/flirting that the girl laughs off but he really means. can't we all hold hands - he wants to be part of her plans. anyway i may be off but alot of the lines seemed to fit and i'm sure most people have cursed their shyness around someone they like so it seems to make sense! |

i'd agree with the abortion theory. "pick a rose just to hide my face" - kill something beatiful (the child) just to hide your own shortcomings (promiscuity/teenage pregnancy) "this is a bandit's life and them's the breaks" - life is unjust and the unborn child has got a bad 'break'. "i seek no science when there is no shape" - he doesn't feel it is wrong to kill the unborn child as there is no life (science) when it forms no shape (unrecognisable foetus) |

kosminski is the most likely jack the ripper suspect as he is the only one in which motive or oppurtunity doesn't seem to be flawed. Also kosminski's admission to a mental assylum could explain the "caught him with his case in the public place" line. Especially considering one of his symptoms of mental instability was compulsive masturbation. Also michael05 he wasn't a butcher by occupation but this could be a reference to the murders as the violent knife attacks are similar to techniques used by butchers on meat. the line "he severed segments secretly he liked that" could be a reference to the fact that the murderings were done in the unlit foggy backstreets of London "in secret" as no one was around. Also Kominski's alledged hatred for women and violent behaviour could suggest he "liked" the killing. the only lines i can't really understand are the "look it's stopped snowing" as the fog in london at the time was one of the main reasons the ripper could get away with these killings, and fog and snow never come at the same time. Also the "always took the time to speak with me" and the "what is this a throw away" lines have me stumped. However writing a song about a serial killer is pretty weird so is probably metaphorical for something personal to Banks or whoever writes the lyrics, sao these lines may relate to his side of the metaphor. |
