| Michelle Branch – Something To Sleep To Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Seems to me like the first part in 3rd person is narrating about the girl, then it switches to first to tell the guy's point of view. Maybe she's doing something wrong (cheating on someone else) by being with him, and so she leads him on thinking that there is a future there. In his mind, they haven't done anything wrong and he still loves her. | |

It's interesting to compare this version with the one it's a "cover" of - Michelle's made a few changes that make me think she wants to change the meaning entirely. While Chantal's version seems to be about being in a loving relationship etc etc, with reference to being unsure if she is ready for it, to me it seems like Michelle's version is about being in a relationship where she's not sure if she's ready for sex, where the guy is clearly more experienced and maybe getting a little frustrated with her. She loves the person very much but she's asking him to give her time to take the relationship further physically. Hold me love, I can't sleep again, will I have to kiss your nose, I wanna lay here next to him, love, Maybe someone else has had the experience of staying over but having a hard time sleeping, being in an unfamilliar situation... I will love the salt on my sheets, oh you'll love me. I think this one is kind of an obvious reference, once you think about it... Just give me many chances, I'll see you through it all, just give me time to learn to crawl, She's saying she feels so far behind - he is "walking" already and she still needs to learn to "crawl", and she's asking him to be patient and non-judgemental. |
