Gah. I always get these wrong. I thought it was about a guy feeling guilty about moving on after his girlfriend died. He says it's the 'wrong place' to be cheating on her, which makes it sound like there's a right place, or at least that it's inevitable - he has to move on at some point. Then he called it a 'small crime', which sounded like he was acknowledging that he wasn't really doing anything wrong, but he still felt guilty and thus he had 'no excuse'. The chorus just sounded like he was asking for permission to move on, and the gun bit sounded like guilt that he wasn't broken up about it enough to kill himself. I don't know. |

You think it sounds like Wonderwall, eh? I just had a look at the chords, and they're almost exactly those of Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams (which Noel accused of ripping off Wonderwall). It's a shame, because the song itself is not that bad, but I don't like the idea that it was ripped off anyone. |

This ios actually the story the song always put in my mind: boy's pretty intense, doesn't care about window dressing ('down to the ocean, it's only water and sand' 'we'll hold hands'), he cares about the 'bare bones' of it all. Like when you're holding hands, it's not the skin on skin contact he's focused on so much as the bones - because that's what's under it all, and he doesn't like ths superficiality of this girl. Just my opinion, I suppose. |
