Queen – Fat Bottomed Girls Lyrics 16 years ago
The key to what turns out to be a tragic song is the line: Hey, I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew life before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman, you made a bad boy out of me, Hey hey!

Freddie Mercury was obviously abused as a child. His behavior later on in life reflects this reality. That's the truth gang.

This is an incredible song musically, but it's a sad song nonetheless.

Finger Eleven – One Thing Lyrics 17 years ago
This song reminds me of Soren Kierkegaard's book, "Purity of Heart is to Will One Thing" (highly recommend it). I have not heard other Finger Eleven songs, but this is cool.

I think the video is illustrative of the meaning. Though beautiful women are shown, I think the meaning is much deeper. I think it points to more eternal things. The 'one thing' in theology and philosophy is often associated with God/the divine. "The One".

Many have traded everything for that 'one thing'. He is like Hamlet though -- torn, not wanting to be labeled a 'believer'.

The video shows in various ways the futility of this life: the conductor with no orchestra, Atlas holding the earth (a punishment representing futility), the woman going round and round on the turn table (representing being 'stuck' just going round and round); even the woman is is in this corner beyond all these candles. Everything is beyond his reach. The faceless man at the table of course points to a lack of meaning.

He sits at the sea staring out -- wondering whether he can make that leap across to the other side (to the eternal). Of course, traversing the ocean has been used as an allegory to traveling to eternity -- whether it be the Red Sea, the Jordan River, Styx, etc.

I think the birds flying at the end of the video represent the soul seeking to fly away.

Please, please, this song is NOT simply about a guy and girl (like so many other trite songs).

U2 – Until The End Of The World Lyrics 17 years ago
Hey gang, first time writer here.

A few insights maybe you haven't considered on this one.
1) Reference to the bride and groom is clearly a reference to the Church and Christ -- Ephesians, where Paul talks about the Church being the bride for Christ the groom. This makes sense as it was the Last Supper -- the institution of the great sacrament of the Church.

2) You miss too much these days if you stop to think. Judas, was the keeper of the purse according to the Scriptures (he also criticizes the woman who anoints the feet of Jesus as 'wasting money'). Those who are good with money are usually good with numbers -- and 'thinkers'. Judas was obviously a 'bright' guy in the worldly sense. But this 'brightness' is the same thing that kept him from seeing the Kingdom of Heaven. "Unless you become like a child, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven..."

Someone may have said this, but I didn't see it. A tart is a prostitute etymologically. In other words, Judas 'sold out' or 'prostituted' himself.

"You said you'd wait till the end of the world" certainly refers to the final judgment where all the nations of the world will be assembled and the shepherd will separate us as sheep and goats (why are the goats condemned? Because goats don't listen). According the book of Revelation there is a judgment when we die, but then a final judgment at 'the end of the world'.

The Catholic Church has never officially declared that even Judas is necessarily in hell.

"I spiked your drink" -- why spiked? What was the drink? His blood. What is a spike? A nail. He was part of nailing him (the passion). A brillant turn of a phrase by Bono (probably the best one in the song). This was obviously intentionally done.
Peace this day.

Great song.
