Whether the song is about a real person, or not. I think I pulled a lot more out of it then most. I Looked at it as if the girl was his friend who came from a broken home and turned to prostitution and that life style is what killed her. He doesn't like that she is just giving up on trying at life. and the whole 'I think her death it must be killin' me' His him feeling guilty about not being able to keep her from that life style. the only reason I pulled this was from lyrics such as: "She always had a pretty face So I wondered how she hung around this place" He thinks she could do more. "But there's got to be an opening Somewhere here in front of me" She thinks through it she can find a way out through selling herself. 'Through this maze of ugliness and greed' Lets face it, That's what prostitution is seen as. You know looking at the lyrics reversed makes my way make since. Am I the only one that thought this could be a song to their fans/about their fans, about their fame? 'I did the best that I could to try to write you songs. Now go tell them we sold out, like we're the ones who changed' When fans turn on bands, because they get played on the radio, or on tv. I just think they think, signing a deal, could lead to their down fall, with their fans. I don't know, that's what I picked up from the song. Still one of the best songs out there right now. |

Atrophy means Wasting away or diminishing in size so it could be about drugs or conformity...because with both you are doing both Wasting away and diminishing in size. Atrophy is also wasting or decrease in size of a part of the body because of disease or lack of use...(that could be drugs) so the name of the song might give away the meaning if you look deeper... |
