I just signed up to give my interpretation of this song. Lame, i know. Walked into our world and made horrible sounds I can still hear them today Strangely, they seem beautiful now Though they outlast my love He's feeling nostalgic. The sounds are the things that they did together, the things which caused her to laugh. When he remembers these things memories come flooding back and he feels that what they did was something he misses and years for hence, the nostalgic part of it. But he feels that the actions meant more to her that his actual feelings towards her. He almost feels like he's been taken for granted in a way, "though they outlast my love" Still each time I always meant Every word, every one Though in time they finally bent Every word, every one, every word Everytime he'd say "I love you" or say affectionate things towards her, she would assume he was saying it to suit the moment they were in. She never took what he said seriously because she thought he was saying it because she wanted him to. [sorry if that didn't make sense]. Eventually she took his words and twisted them. Each thing he said was an intricate detail in her plan for the two. "I will wait for you," she said, "endlessly" "I will wait for you." So spoke misery Pretty self explanitory. She promised him she'd be with him and wait for him "endlessly" while he was away [perhaps on tour?]. He was skeptical hence the "so spoke misery". Misery could be a metaphor for his heart as his heart knew she didn't mean it but he kept saying to himself that she did mean it and they would be with each other forever. I returned to you but found My empty home The radio told me to stay (As it burned down) I sang alone You will outlast, my love He returns home [their home?] and she isn't there. His heart or conscience ["radio"] is telling him to stay as a constant reminder of his love and her promise to him while he is falling apart physically at his loss. He reminisces alone "sang alone" and sings their own song if they had one. "You" is referring to her new lover. He knew that she could not wait, yet told himself each time she made the hollow promise that she would be there always. But alas, she has left him for another person who will fulfill what he could not do [be around etc] I have been waiting for you Biting as you taught me to I have come to relieve you Of life and love He is still waiting for her. She taught gim to be strong and not to take people's crap, just to grit your teeth and move on. Now is it "relive" or "relieve"? I would get my CD booklet but it's upstairs and can't be bothered. Because the two words bring different meanings to the song. "Relive" he will always remember her and cannot let go of her, he will always remember their life together before she left. "Relieve" he is slowly getting over and and her false love/affection for him. I will wait for you I will wait for you I will wait for you I will wait I will wait He is going crazy from the empty promises she made to him. I will bite straight through As I wait for you, dear Endlessly He grits his teeth at each recollection of her and will fight hard to let it go. His head is saying "let it go, it's over, you know it" but his heart is saying "She'll return if you just wait". So, in short, he'll always be waiting for her as she said she would wait for him, he just hasn't concluded with himself that he's going to be waiting forever. Yeah, it's long. Sorry if it doens't make sense, but that's my interpretation on this bittersweet song. -chellee |
