I've never quite understood why this one hasn't become a fan-favorite or a regular on the band's setlists. It has all of the elements: hard guitars, interesting lyrics, funk. A brodel is a true friend. The nazz refers to a monologue by Lord Buckley titled, "The Nazz." It can be found here: http://www.columbia.edu/~tdk3/nazz.html It is a retelling of the story of Jesus of Nazareth. In this case, the nazz seems to mean the teacher, the magnetic one. Therefore, the true friend is the teacher. One lesson seems to be about learning how to balance life and art, as the chorus states: "the goal is to be a poet, and a carpenter, to be one who loves, to be one who works." Nick Hexum starts by listing some of the band's brodels. Doug Martinez shines on this one, as well. His entire second verse could be a metaphor for self-discovery. |
