| "Absurd and accidental atoms" should be "sudden accidental atoms" according to the lyric sheet. | |
| Thrice – All The World Is Mad Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is essentially about the fall of man since Eden, "But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits, Still we smile and deny that we're cursed." The former line being an adaptation of one of Jesus' shorter parables, and the latter a reference to the human race being cursed after Adam and Eve sinned, and the fact that we try to pretend everything's. The gist of this song is summed up nicely by Psalm 14:3 "There is no one who does good, not even one." The whole album is very much like the book of Ecclesiastes. |

It sounds like he's talking at least in part about the effects of sin degrading one's conscience. In other words, how as we keep doing things we know are wrong, and as we keep on doing them, our conscience gets dimmer; and before we know it, we're so calloused that we don't even know it's there anymore, yet somehow we justify these things. In reference to the Jackboot thing, it could be a reference to Nazi genocide (the Jews as well as the elderly and those with defects), and hence could be comparing it to abortion, which is also genocide, and could only happen as a result of a calloused conscience. |

| This song sound largely like an echo of the last couple chapters of Job, where after Job charges God of doing something wrong, God responds; some of which I believe are in this song (I'd have to go back and read it again, but basic contents is the same as most of this song). I just thought that was interesting. | |

From lyric sheets (punctuation and all): Something didn't want you to live in me. My body rejected you and you don't belong to me. And after the bodies cleaned they have to make room for you to breath Something didn't want you to die in me Breather you took it all away from me. You're nothing. Was I supposed to see? Mother we're going too fast for me. I was a growing seed. It ended mother. I was still so afraid of my grave. I was buried as a child, father And after all my organs were choked. Do you still feel me? I'll find sadness it matches my sound its vicious as sex Devil you fed it your son isn't finished |

In order to have a successful ministry, you have to confront your enemy. Even Jesus was very blunt and aggressive at times. He talked more about hell than He did heaven! This is a spiritual war we're in, and war isn't pretty. It's good to be angry about the things that God is angry about. Anyone who isn't angry about rape, murder, abortion, etc. isn't anywhere close to the heart of God. And honestly, the real place (not the only) is at the show, because you're actually there. Sadly, that's the place where most bands don't do anything. I personally am hoping God does an overhaul of the Christian music industry soon. There's a serious lack of ministry in the Christian music ministry. |

| Norma Jean – Death Of The Anti Mother Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've kinda gotten the impression that this whole album has to do with abortion, at least to an extent. If you think about it, what better to fall under the name "Anti-Mother" than abortion? That's not to say EVERYTHING is, but there's several places where it's applicable. | |
| Thrice – Broken Lungs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is referring to 9/11, but I don't think that's the message of the song. Dustin is always talking about searching for truth, and seeing that he names himself a Christian, I'm sure he's aware of John 14:7 (where Jesus said "I am the Way THE Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Me."). To say that he's talking about lies and truth concerning 9/11 would be about shallow truth, in other words, truth that in the long run doesn't really matter. Truth, such as the meaning of life, what happens after death, etc., these are lasting and permanent truths. Now maybe I'm wrong about Dustin, but I would say that writing a song about 9/11 in a conspirator's mindset would be beneath him (unless in an attempt to reveal something deeper or to make a point) but I don't know Dustin personally so I'd be stupid to bank on that. | |

| It's actually "Bible black," by the way. Not "by the black." | |
| Thrice – The Messenger Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Keep in mind it's God that's hardening their hearts, not Isaiah. Isaiah was sent out to tell the people the truth, and so I think it's more of asking God why He did it that way, kind of like an "I don't get it, God" thing. He's trying to reach the people, but they're not listening, and on top of that, God is giving the people over to their ignorance so they really can't hear. There's a scripture that better explains why God does things that way, but I can't recall the exact wording or where it is. Anyway, I hope that clears things up and not further confuse you. :-) | |
| Thrice – The Messenger Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I looked up the "wooden saw" reference. It's not in the Bible, I think it's in the apocryphal, which is kinda iffy on it's historical accuracy, however it explains Dustin's thought here. In legend if not reality, the prophet Isaiah was cut in half with a wooden saw because whatever king it was at the time didn't like what he had to say. Obviously, he's referring to putting his whole life on the line. | |
| Thrice – Lost Continent Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Could be another allusion to the flood (you know, the one that covered the whole earth in water). Also could be tied to the Vheissu b-side "lullaby." Not sure, though. | |

This is from Isaiah chapter 6. Which is in part: 5 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" 9 He said, "Go and tell this people: " 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.' 10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed." |

I think it's pretty clear that this song's talking a lot about hell and judgment day, and people's lack of belief in them. "There is truth beneath the floorboards; there is hope in brick and stone." Those two lines are totally Poe references. The floorboards one being from telltale heart and the brick and stone reference I think is from the Black Cat. |

| Oh, Sleeper – I Will Welcome The Reaping Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"And just past decay, this design delivers life, but they prefer to play cancer. In chase for the sky, towers uprise. In fear, the earth quakes for what's forgot. They cut like the butchers with pride as their cleavers, as the tide prowls their shores. They never listened when we screamed, "Wash the blood from your hands! Rip off the veils! Wash the blood from your hands and run, see what you forgot!" I'm gonna take a stab at it here, realizing I could be wrong. I think that this part (potentially) is talking about evolution, though not evolution itself. Specifically, the verse in 2nd Peter (I think it's 2nd, could be first) where it's speaking about creation and how people will be "willingly ignorant" of it and choose to believe they're own "truth." ("This design delivers life but they prefer to play the cancer") and then where he says "Rip off the veils, wash the blood from your hands" could be talking about repentance and turning from the sin of their ignorance and lying, so and and so forth. That's my two cents. It could be wrong, but I think at least some of it is right. The rest of the song I don't know. |

| Thrice – Lullaby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song basically throws the idea of "world peace" in the trash. For one, it points out that it is merely a dream and that's all it ever will be. Most people now days live for the moment and for pleasure; we're all searching for love but are looking in all the wrong places and trying to get it our own way. We love the things we do but refuse to admit that any of it is wrong ("no right or wrong, can you image?") and in doing so we would have believe in something other than God ("No heaven above us, just mile after mile of empty sky), and in turn we can't find the love that we need because we deny God is who He says He is or that He even exists at all, and it is He who is the love that we need. In "For Miles," Dustin made reference to something Jesus said: "No greater love has anyone than this: that one lay his life down for his friends," which also relates to the end of this song's first stanza ("What I need is love thats worth laying down my life") which also can be tied to a couple other things Jesus said, such as "He who loses his life for My sake will gain it" and "Take up your cross and follow Me." I really like the lyrics to this song in that they're well written and I totally love the message and the way he says it. I hope there's more stuff like this on their new one coming out. | |
