| Finger Eleven – Swallowtail Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Pretty sure this song might be about a girl swallowing the guys load after a blowjob... | |
| Dave Matthews Band – Squirm Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I agree with what everyone has said so far... I wouldn't say he's straight up denouncing religion, but is definitely turning that page. I get the vibe that this song is basically preaching to everyone to not accept what is told to them simply because it was told to them. Find out for yourself... discover the truth on your own... because really it doesn't matter what another person says, if you don't believe it. | |
| John Frusciante – Going Inside Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"You don't throw your life away Going Inside You get to know who's watching you And who besides you resides In your body Where you're slow" this song is definitely about getting away from the world.. When times are tough, people tend to "go inside" themselves to find comfort. A lot of times this is viewed negatively, as if it means the person is anti-social, an outcast, a recluse, or what have you. However; John seems to be preaching how this shouldn't be seen as such.. And how the process of "going inside" when times are rough can actually benefit you; in the sense that, at no other time would you necessarily find out what you're REALLY made of.. "Where you go doesn't matter Cuz there will come a time When time goes out the window And you'll learn to drive out of focus I'm you and if anything unfolds It's supposed to" Here I think John is trying to say that when a person is on their death bed ("when time goes out the window"), all that really matters is knowing who you are; and what you ultimately think of your life. And basically that you shouldn't base your life's accomplishments on what you COULD or SHOULD have done.. but to look at your life relative to yours only and not hopes or dreams or expectations put on you by others. "You don't throw your time away sitting still I'm in a chain of memories It's my will And I had to consult some figures of my past And I know someone after me Will go right back I'm not telling a view I've got this night to unglue I moved this fight away By doing things there's no reason to do" Here I believe John is making amends with not living up to his full potential ("you don't throw your time away standing still"). But through it all, finding joy in the potential he did reach; seeing his accomplishments for what they meant to him. This could definitely be about something completely different too.. But that's the beauty of Frusciante's work.. so abstract, so cryptic.. It's a lot of fun to try and decipher his music. John is extremely underrated as a lyricist and a singer. |

| Foo Fighters – Let It Die Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Such a great song.. jumped out at me right away first time I listened to theiir new album. Nevermind the meaning, everyone will have their opinion. How about the distinct change the song takes around the 2:00 mark? Literally no change in lyrics, but a definite change about how he feels about the question "why'd you have to go and let it die". Whatever he wrote this song about, in the beginning it's almost as if he just wanted an answer for some closure or peace of mind... but at the end it gives you a sense that no matter what the answer may be, this is something that will burn inside of him til he dies as well | |
| O.A.R. – I Feel Home Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think everyones dead on with what this song means, but I also think that's just the tip of a much deeper meaning. I feel home when I see the faces that remember my own. I feel home, when I'm chillin outside with the people I know. I feel home, and that's just what I feel. Home to me is reality, and all I need is something real. I think that he's trying to say that "home" can be wherever you make it. "Home to me is reality/and all I need is something real".... Obviously it's a metaphor, "home" is a feeling. It's not a building, or a place, it's being around the people you feel closest too -- "when I'm with my friends I feel home". |

| Linkin Park – Shadow Of The Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the story within the song sets the tone for the meaning, but a much deeper one then it seems. Obviously the first and second verses portray someone dealing with a lot of depression. Then comes the hook.... I think what is being symbolized here is that it's how we live today that gives us our outlook on the world and causes how we feel the next. "And the shadow of the day" -- what we did today, how we thought about a certain situation, how we reacted, etc.... "Will embrace the world in gray" -- Meaning how we lived today (shadow of the day) is what gives our outlook on life. In this song... the person is depressed so.. so he shuts off the world which just furthers the depression "And the sun will set for you" -- Just ties right back into the other two lines. Each and every day you have a new chance to embrace life and living, but its the choices you make in the today that will make tomorrow what it becomes. |
