| i have been sing this song non-stop since i heard it for the first time yesterday. i love it. i do think that it's both a lamenting of destroying your brain through to drugs- and reaching out for someone you love and respect to support you and help you "think through" life. it's honest and so humane like most flaming lips songs. it's a song about true friendship. | |

yes, i agree that the bleeding is like an idea that has injured him... and i agree with imightloseit- i think he did get involved in religion. i hear that loud and clear in alot of his songs... and he has subsequently turned away for lack of conviction/evidence or the hypocrisy he saw around him. i think he's speaking about blind people agreeing with ideas they have no real conviction of. no evidence of their change of heart. people following blindly, as is the fashion. i think the above and below is a reference to above- the idea of the good and light, God. and the below- the evil, darkness and the under world. "struggling to believe it's so"- the darkness inside knowing the struggle to have faith. all thoughts... but are we ever really meant to "get" flaming lips songs? |

ahhh! this song is about love bugging you! yes it bites, but it gets to you! it gets in the way, it gets messy but it's LOVE! what fun to be in love!!!! (well, that's just my take on it!) and jake987722, i think Wayne has a bit of an obsession with Chrisitmas! don't loads of their songs have a Christmas jingle somewhere in them? ha ha! |

oh i think we're all right! isn't that what the flaming lips do best? allude to metaphors and meanings and leave it so loose it can mean many different things? i don't think the sci-fi idea is out of reach. i thinks it's both a sci-fi and relationship musing at the same time. x |

hey spinning sun! i totally agree with you. they allow me to accept and be at peace with my thoughts. i feel empowered and energised too. this song to me is about seeing death, wanting to save or help the casualty, but at the same time wanting to be in the casualy's position of weakness... is life all too much? it's a musing on death, care for others and the dark side of life that makes death seem appealing. a beautiful song. by the way- the lyrics (as far as i know) "our lives are strangely our own" NOT "our lives are strangely all alone" i think he is speaking of the ownership and responsibility we all must accept for our own living. Also, i don't think the flaming lips take drugs of any sort... |

For me, this song is about things that you want to do and achieve taking longer than your plans, and using friendship to encourage you along on the journey. it's about frustrations of our own limits, and the sense that you're not going anywhere... but don't lose touch with the folks who are near you. don't let yourself be discouraged. keep it together with others. |
