Love this song. It seems pretty straight forward, boy loves girl, so he writes a song about how agonizing it his for him that she doesn't love him back, probably because she's bitter from a previous love. Then again, if someone wrote this song for me I couldn't help but fall in love with them. |

ok, I know that this song was written pre-VA tech, but does anyone else think the lines "darken your clothes or strike a violent pose" are eerily reminiscant of the videos/pictures that the VA tech shooter released? Most likely no correlation. Just saying. |

This obviously lends itself to a religious interpretation, but there's definitely a woman involved...maybe she died? Plus, his wings keep getting bigger, and there must be a reason his face is constantly hidden by whatever book he reading. And I wonder if tearing out the pages of the book is a sign of rejection of the material (what I initially thought) or an attempt to share whatever it is with the people he passes...I really don't know...any ideas? |

Ok, don't quote me on this, but I'm 95% sure Joseph Arthur wrote and sang the song originally. he was discovered by Peter Gabriel, who later covered this song. It was also covered by Stipe and Martin for a Hurricane Katrina relief program. But no idea.
I first heard this song in the movie Saved and fell in love. To me (fitting with the movie) it seems to talk about losing touch with and and adapting for oneself a faith of some sort, which is an experience I've been through personally. But who knows... |
