| Emmy the Great – MIA Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| And also... how can the sky be as blue as she's ever seen it if it's raining/wet? Anyone help me out? There's the obvious "it was wet then it cleared up but the road was still wet answer" but meh... i dunno. | |

Right this is probably kinda far out but bear with me - everyone's saying they like how literal her lyrics are and this goes against it so i'm probably wrong! I think perhaps she's cheating on her boyfriend/husband/whatever and he's rammed the car off the road when he's found out... I'll try to explain - i thought the lines "who's gonna cancel my date" (repeated) and "you forgot how to brake" were kind of odd. If you take "date" in the sense of man meets woman to go out - i wouldn't have thought you'd refer to a long term couple going on one of these dates, and even if you would, if your dating partner was lying dead next to you i doubt you'd think "i need to cancel"? Perhaps she had already arranged to meet another man? Then the line "you forgot how to brake" is suspect in that it doesn't say "you swerved" or "skidded" it says "you forgot" as though he should have been braking and it was obvious he should be doing so, but for whatever reason chose not to. As i say, probably too overly analytical - but it was the only explanation i could come up with to satisfy my stupid theories... |

I came here to say that i thought "fucking" ruins the tone of the song. Glad to see other people have done it for me. I think Kele's a smart guy, I'm sure he's capable of showing passion in much more eloquent ways! |

| Reel Big Fish – Drunk Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Okay maybe i was wrong, half the song is about self pity. But i do think the way it's expressed is way different from emo. I assume i'm not making much sense. But i hope SOME of it is understandable...? | |

Emo? naaaaaah man. If anything i'd say it's closer to lounge music. And the bridge ("at the mercy of you" etc) to me at least, sounds way closer to something out of a big show tune, especially when Scott really belts it. I reckon if the lyrics were much more metaphorical and full of self pity it COULD be leaning towards emo, but i think the tone of bitterness that comes across adds that bit extra and separates it out. |

| Bloc Party – Where Is Home? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The ballerina bit reminded me of the scene in fight club where the main character "wanted to destroy something beautiful". Their motives are different but in my mind it seems like the same sort of anger, and the need to vent such extreme frustration on anything and probably everything, if given the chance. In a way, its a really childish and selfish way to think, the singer is essentially saying if he can't have what matters so much to him then no one can anything that matters to them, and he's going to see to it. But that, to me, is what's so effective about the line. I've felt pretty strong anger before (obviously not on this scale, but the theory is still the same) and i think that line really epitomise's the irrationality and other feelings that come with it. All of what i've just said is probably wrong and makes no sense to anyone... but i thought i'd try and get my point across =\ | |

| Alexisonfire – Pulmonary Archery Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Doesn't "pulmonary" have something to do with hearts and lungs and blood? I did physics not biology so I'm not entirely sure =\ To be honest I have no idea what the song means but as with most AOF songs it can probably be interpated it loads of different ways, I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what link the title had to the meaning of the song? | |

Having read through other people's comments i've kinda come to realise my first impression of the song was probably wrong... but anyway. When i first heard the song I thought the house thing wasn't just a metaphor. I mean I thought that it could be talking about the time in someone's life when they work as hard as they possibly can, put themselves through college, uni, whatever, get a steady job and finally buy their own house. It sort've seemed like looking around this "perfect" house, the singer realised it wasn't "what he hoped for." Maybe i just took the house thing too bluntly, but like everyone's said, it's really a metaphor for any great let down in life. I just thought it was an example of such a let down aswell. In my opinion that's what makes great lyrics. One's that everyone can make sense of in their own way. Just a theory, i hope it made some sort of sense. |
