i thought it was petals often torn?? i know it is about disease. but i dont see cancer. here's my rather harebrained idea it makes me think of someone whose disease was lifestyle related. like an illness that was complicated by smoking cigarettes, would have made them weathered and worn. and the adolescence bits would make sense if he started very young. or perhaps someone with aids, in which case it would also make sense. i dont have so much faith in artists, to be honest, that i believe they created every lyric with deep meaning in mind. i think the song was just meant to be about someone diseased really. but it's interesting to see what creative minds can brew up for explanations. |

i agree with wiglac. well, with alot of you. i've always thought of the building thing as just a distraction, her husband saying his thoughts out loud to make things seem a little bit normal. i just think the wife is a little unstable. but she married this man who is so in love with her and cares for her so much, no matter what. she might not love him, and that's why she treats him that way. she drinks and she isn't all that responsible, but he's there to take care of her. |

so upon hearing this song i always assumed it was about the in between stage in a relationship where you are on the cusp of breakup but you just can't seem to let it go "wish it were over, it seems to never end only get closer to the point where i can take no more" but the fact that every time she begins to cry he can't seem to bring himself to end the relationship just my own off idea of it. i always seem to have adifferent interpreteation than most but hey, someone else may have already posted the same exact thoughts, i was too lazy to read all of them right now |

I'm guessing Teddy had nothing to do with the song...Eleanor was married to FDR. Also, the WWII theory is the best bet considering Franklin was limited to his wheelchair. Somehow I doubt he was much of a hunter. Unless of course, ole ReSpekt, like so many of you, also got her presidents mixed up and thought Eleanor was married to Teddy, whose famous hunting habits are still remembered today by the popular stuffed bears carrynig his namesake. stkatherine, i totally get what you mean on the floaters thing. weird. anyways, this is my fave regina song. considering i'm a huge fan, and i never really thought about it too directly. which is odd. but i sortof always imagined it being from the point of view of the prostitute in the catcher in the rye. how she is really innocent looking, but she knows what she is doing. idk. it's just what i kindof imagine. |

haa. all i know is that reading these comments, platnum ben's is my favorite. these are all my first interpretations that i thought before i read any of your comments, when i first listened to the song. idk, when i first heard it i sortof thought of 'she' and 'you' being two different people...like when he says she he is referring to his girlfriend, but you is a girl he met, who he wants to hook up with. and he does, he just ends up falling in love with her. i just was wondering why he would switch between 'you' and 'she' throughout the song.. so i wrote a whole translation if there were two girls, and it works, it is just verryyy long. |
