The Magnetic Fields – Epitaph For My Heart Lyrics 18 years ago
The first part (the "Caution caution" part) was composed as a song by itself. Merritt decided the album had enough short songs so he used it as an introduction to this other song.

The Magnetic Fields – Busby Berkeley Dreams Lyrics 18 years ago
The Busby Berkeley (being responsible for some of the most complex and exaggerated coreographical movie scenes in hollywood) reference adds to the over-the-top dramatism of the songs rather than working in function of any simbolism.

The Magnetic Fields – Abigail, Belle Of Kilronan Lyrics 18 years ago
I also think it's a father singing to his daughter. Also, in that way, the "don't be alone" part fits a lot better.

The Magnetic Fields – Born on a Train Lyrics 18 years ago
I also hava to say that there are others songs about vampires in Merritt's discography, like "Parades Go By" included in 69 Love Songs, and the very obvious Future Bible Heroes song, "I'm a Vampire".

The Magnetic Fields – Born on a Train Lyrics 18 years ago
Sadeyedbaby is right, the whole album is plenty of vampire references and this was acknowledged by Stephin Merritt himself. Other songs in the album are very explicit in its references, like Crowd of Drifters and I Have the Moon. I wouldn't take the risk of saying this is "a song about vampires" but as said up there, the album is loosely based in vampires (and drifting too, of course).
