i think that this is about a breakup. telegraph cables hung- maybe the breakup was conducted via telephone the metaphor of land being like her relationship the water didnt realize its dangerous size - she didnt realize how much he meant to her, or vice versa, deep and rocky sides being something such as this breakup. im not sure about the stanza initiated by im pale as a pile of bones i think that it could mean that she is sorrowing the breakup, that he wanted babies, or something, its a bit of a stretch, but maybe she didnt want any the gray sky thats acting like a good guy is kind of the sting afterwards coming from the "its not you, its me, or the this really isnt working out, im sorry, id love to be friends, type of notion that is unwanted but necessary in order to "supress" the pain from the breakup. either way, this song is quite shattering, very relateable if my interpretation is correct. |
