"There's no end to the love you can give" When you change your point of view to underfoot Very good: you may be flat but you're breathing" -Delilah loves people she shouldn't when her Schizophrenia medication makes her feel "flat" or "down." She starts feeling like she's underfoot. Like she's under everyone else. "at least you're still breathing" meaning at least you're still alive "And there's no doubt He's at home in his room Probably watching porn of you from the fall It's last call and you're the last one leaving" -Her last boyfriend is home watching sex tapes she agreed to make after her "last fall". Meaning she was flat again, and she equates love with sex. Like from the first part "There's no end to the love you can give" Delilah's getting drunk in a bar. "And you thought you could change the world By opening your legs Well it isn't very hard Try kicking them instead" -Delilah's boyfriend is abusive, and she thinks that if she has sex with him that it will make it all better, and he'll stop. "Well it isn't very hard" The answer to her problems is kicking him, weather physically kicking him, or just breaking up. I'm not sure. "And you thought you could change his mind By changing your perfume To the kind his mother wore Oh God, Delilah, why? I never met a more impossible girl" -Delilah thinks that if she wears a different perfume, like his mother wore, he'll really love her. "In this same bar where you slammed down your hand And said, "Amanda, i'm in love" No you're not You're just a sucker for the ones who use you And it doesn't matter what I say or do The stupid bastard's gonna have his way with you" -The same bar where's she's getting drunk, is the first place she told Amanda she was in love. Amanda says no you're not, you just can't stop getting into abusive relationships. Amanda's pretty much given up, because Delilah is going to let herself be used by the "bastard" anyway. "You're an unrescuable schizo Or else you're on the rag 'Cause if you take him back I'm gonna lose my nerve I never met a more impossible girl" -Delilah uses her period, or Schizophrenia as an excuse, on why she's taken him back. (My guess is that Delilah is in fact a Schizophrenic. That's why she can use that excuse.) Amanda is again frustrated with Delilah because she won't help herself. and knows she's gonna take him back. "At four o'clock he got off and you called up "I'm down at Denny's on Route One And you won't guess what he's done" Is that a fact, Delilah? Larry Tap let you in through the back And use his calling card again for a quick hand of gin" -At 4 "the bastard" got off work and called Delilah, who of course took him back. Delilah calls Amanda to explain her situation, but Amanda already knows. The "Larry Tap" line is Amanda telling Delilah's situation, in a metaphor I don't understand. "You are impossible, Delilah The princess of denial And after seven years in advertising you are none the wiser" - Delilah recognizes that she gets into bad relationships, but denies that her current one is bad too. "You're an unrescuable schizo Or else you're on the rag 'Cause if you take him back I'm gonna lose my nerve" -same as before "He's gonna beat you like a pillow You schizos never learn And if you take him home You'll get what you deserve I never met a more impossible girl" -Amanda knows that "the bastard" is abusive. The "schizos" line is Amanda being sarcastic about Delilah's excuses. Amanda warned her about what's going to happen "So don't cry, Delilah You're still alive, Delilah You need a ride, Delilah? Let's see how fast this thing can go" -Now we're back full circle and Delilah is flat again because "the bastard's" abused her, or he left her. Amanda is repeating her lines in the whole cycle, and wondering how long it will take Delilah to come back again full circle. Delilah seems like a classic Co-Dependant personality. She's not happy unless she's giving something up to make someone else happy. While in reality the "Delilah" of the relationship is just letting themselves be exploited, because "the bastard" is never going to be happy or satisfied. Both my Father and Grandmother are both Co-Dependants, so that part seems pretty clear to me. I wanna cry every time I hear this song. PinkKipper: maybe Amanda's mom is Delilah? and she's being sarcastic when she dedicates it to her father. Like if he had stuck around, then this wouldn't have happened. That would be my guess. |

| I always thought that 'burning down my finger' referred to drugs, but what you guy's are saying makes more sense in the song. | |
