Augie March – There Is No Such Place Lyrics 17 years ago
Any song writer that can make such a hauntingly beautiful song such as this, and use the words 'hither thither', is alright in my book.

My take is that the place that doesn't exist is a future that two people planned together but ended up planning different futures which would never intersect. The fall out is heart wrenching.

Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about the MLB All Star Game and Malibus. God I hate the marketing world...

Two Gallants – Fly Low Carrion Crow Lyrics 18 years ago
Adam writes about a lot of abstracted ideas, kind of poetically displaying what we know innately. I think this song less specific and more aimed at looking back at one's decisions in life; in love; and knowing you messed up.

As for a rib-cage brain, well, that is a heart. Some lead their lives by emotional intellect.

KRS-One – Ah Yeah! Lyrics 18 years ago
One of KRS's most impressive lyrical expressions. It's direct, critical, and honest.

one small correction: 'Making you a naked body, attic' is 'making you a naked body addict'

Two Gallants – Two Days Short Tomorrow Lyrics 18 years ago
and if you ever seek me out I'll be someone among the people you call ?. The question mark part is 'have-beens'.

TG's are simply the best, most intelligent, band in music today. And Adam is a nice guy to boot - boy does he love his Hot Toddy's.

Two Gallants – Nothing to You Lyrics 18 years ago
couple of corrections:

'I heard that you forgot that you were (a) lover' is 'I heard that you got you a lover.'

'And it's down by the riverside (beating the clay)' is 'and it's down by the riverside (feet in the clay)'

Plus, TG's have been performing this song with a different third verse. I don't have the energy to transpose the lyrics currently. I'll get to it later...

Two Gallants – Long Summer Day Lyrics 18 years ago
some corrections:

'Throw my walls, my roof, my door' is 'Owns my walls, my roof, my door'

'take me to my knees' is 'take me to my ease.'

'Of a fungus below a place called hell' is 'Of a furnace below, a place called hell'

Awesome song. One of their best, except all of their songs are one of the best. I fail to see how someone can see this song as racist. Those critics must have had an extra large bowl of Moron Flakes that morning.

Two Gallants – Threnody Lyrics 18 years ago
By far, their best song. I haven't physically seen them perform this song in concert, other than on youtube, so I do believe I can die once they I do see them play Threnody live.

The most poignant part of the song: "hear the children swing with sorrow, yesterday was once tomorrow. no more i'll be troubled by the troubles of this world. But if i lose my step along the way and if the speech of victim fills my throat; out beyond the cliffs that shape the day, it's there i'll wander, there i'll stray, it's there i'll look for you when all my trials are done."

It's love gone amiss. No one person is ever to fully blame (regardless of ones pleading) for a love that breaks. But, there is still love there, almost to a fault, and that he hangs on to a simple fact: Our love died now, but the memory still holds onto a chance that is not reciprocated.

Two Gallants – Drive My Car Lyrics 18 years ago
This was the first Two Gallants song I heard more than a year ago now. I was hooked. Instantly.

As far as meaning goes, its about relationships (like 98% of all songs ever written). And an apparent bad one. The girl is playing the 'pity me' part (ie.“It’s hard” she said “my fortune’s been quite hard”
“It’s hard” she said “my fortune’s been quite hard”
“this card” he said “don’t play that victim card”
“this card” he said “don’t play that victim card”).

The girl is in the relationship, he feels, for more of a physical nature ("You don’t listen when he says,
That you don’t love him for his brain but for his head-") Penis, not intellect...She abuses verbally, emotionally ("And when all the hate you throw, is all you really need to but him from below") and it seems like she does this in public to demean him ("everyone got ticketst to the show to watch your cheeks go red-"). Plus, he feels like everyone else knows how bad the situation is too which drives his embarassment of the situation ("When all he hears is the curse of what you did, and all he knows is the need to keep you hid.") Then he finally tells her off and htis the road ("I'll take the door instead.")

Oh and by the way, this song describes my ex-wife perfectly.

Two Gallants – The Throes Lyrics 18 years ago
There is no 'happy ending'. I like to sing along to this song, and there are parts that get me seriously choked up when you start to internalize the lyrics and story.

Two Gallants – Fail Hard to Regain Lyrics 18 years ago
A few corrections to make

"'twas on her dark march she pinned south bound I did ride"

Should read: "'Twas on a dark March evening, southbound I did ride."

"you know that you've been to real to those whom
realness should be vague."

Should read: "You know that you've been real to those whom realness should be paid."

"as captives of this paltry train,"

Should read: "as captives of this paltry trade"

This is just amazing. Truly poetic, abrasively harsh; a masterpiece of writing and composition. Nobody, but nobody, writes songs like this.
