Its about his girlfriend that he just split up with, can't remember her name, but shes a model anyway. Gloria is just a name used in the song. She was from Italy, hence the title venice queen. The beginning has got great atmosphere to it, beautiful song, my fave on the album along with dosed. |

This song makes me feel like crying more now than when i first heard it. Basically he really loved this girl and would do anything for her but she did feel the same about him. First he says 'his face will never show what is not real' meaning he can't lie about his feelings. But then it says 'shes gone away'. If he had lied about his feelings for her she would still be around and he misses her.I can relate to this song as i told my best friend (who was a boy) that i had stronger feelings for him than just friendship.We are still friends but hes not around as much any more and i miss him sooo much.If i hadnt told him about my feelings, maybe we'd still be close. Great song anyway. Amazing guitar solo and very touching lyrics. |

I agree with you spinningmisfit. Yes paul is a great song writer but what about John? He wrote this song 2! Im a big beatles fan but i do find John the strongest, most compelling and inovetive member of the group. Pauls lyrics a good up to a certain extent but i find johns make you think more about what is trying to be put across. Its pure poetry. |

I love eva cassidy! I recently sang and 'fields of gold' in my whole school assembly in honour of a student, whom i knew very well, that died not long ago. I played the piano part too, it was very scary but i'm glad i did it. I think she does great justice to the origional, beautiful voice aswell. |

Well, in my view, this is about his long term girl friend he recently split up with. Basically, he thought he had a perfect relationship with her 'show love with no remorse, climb onto your sea horse, this ride is right on course, this is the way i wanted it to be with you, this is the way i knew that it would be with you'. Kiedis says he got dosed by this person, meaning he was practically addicted to her,loved her and felt he couldn't survive without her, nothing to do with drugs. 'Deep inside the canyon, i can't hide' to me means that no matter where or how hard he tries to hide the feelings he still has for her, he can't.'Take it away i never had it anyway, take it away and everything will be ok' means that if his "love" left him, it couldn't have been real love in the first place and that if he just tried to forget her he would hopefully get over her. Overall its a sad but very sweet love song. |
