And remember the videos to all songs are artistic interpretations of the songs not really an actual depiction of its "meaning." The video clearly depicts Shakira's insecurities through the image of an affair, but the song itself is not about an affair. |

Does anyone out there listen to any Shakira interviews? In this song she specifically writes about her own insecurities that there is or would be a woman who is thinner, more beautiful, speaks more languages, etc. If any one is interested in her comments about this particular song, I would suggest going to youtube and doing a bit of sleuthing. |

I think Jac has hit the meaning spot on. This is truly a song, as are the majority of her songs, that speaks volumes about various ideas while avoiding the standard popular music cliches. |

Abigail, perhaps she is speaking to her "child" self or a younger self, a lot of people have expectations of themselves when they are younger, dreams, etc. and maybe she is just telling "herself" to "Always be yourself along the way/Living through the spirit of your dreams" and that she won't let her down. And despite the years between them, she asks "what is the world could ever come between us?" I may be totally off the mark, but that is how I interpreted the song when I first heard it. |
