Another classic Pumpkin album opener. Getting right into this song after having a few listens of it. princessKATIE, Zeitgeist is German for "The spirit of the time; the taste and outlook characteristic of a period or generation". In other word's, the whole album is Billys view of the world & its' people in their current state. |

gabyeatworld, If you look carefully at the cover, you'll notice an atomic bomb going off in the background. The cover is meant to symbolise how most people care more about Paris Hilton (as she's on every bloody magazine cover) rather than the important issues in the world (war in Iraq, famine, disease ect.). It's symbolic when you think about it. |

The Paris Hiltart picture kind of backs up what I think some of Tarantulas' lyrics are about. It really kicks are though. Typically Pumpkins as there's a real depth to it - you notice something new after each listen. I love how it changes tempo around 2:58 - this is what I loved about the Pumpkins, how they're able to mix the sound up within one song (favourite Pumpkins song is Hummer because its' tempo changes so fluidly within its' 6-minute duration). Hope there's more of this to come. |

I think part of it's about the idols of today's world & those who choose to follow them. "Oh it’s a white hot soul they want, sinful." Referring to the idols themselves. "Sinful" may be referring to the idols as fakes & their immoral rise in the entertainment world. & "If it’s a white hot soul they want It’s a black heart they’ll get." Referring to the fans of these "phoney" idols & the wicked hearts they'll possess for encouraging them to succeed. |
