This song ties in aspects of Barbarella the movie, along with other science- fiction pop culture references i.e Space #9. Which was some kinda 70's TV series I believe. Much like Star Trek. The whole video was a direct spin- off of a David Bowie song and video. I can't remember what the name of the Bowie song was. I can only vaguely recall a 3 minute story Kurt Loder did on this song. It was an interview in which Scott talked about the power drugs can have on you. Along with the things I have mentioned above. I'll break down what Weiland is referring to with some of his lyrics: "Don't know just who I am Don't know about the lamb I'm the meat of the feast". = As a junkie Scott is the meat that drug dealers feast on. It's an easy sale. Scott doesn't know "who I am", or his role, bcuz he is clouded by his drug use. "And all the tangerines they taste like jellybeans". = The greater aspects of his life have become ordinary. Again this is bcuz of his drug abuse. Barberella = I'm pretty sure Scott's refering to his wife. " Save me from my Misery. Can't you see it's a disease. Shoot the bad guys..........................We watch Lost in Space on my TV". = Misery due to drug abuse. Disease is his drug abuse. Shoot the bad guys; meaning to kill Scott's demons. Watch Lost in Space; Watch other struggle while we live happily ever after. Worth mentioning......The one line that hit me like a ton of bricks was: "grab a scale and guess the wait of all the pain I've given with my name. I'm a selfish piece of shit". This song is fucking heavy. And it was a great way to sum up his message. I cried the first 10 times I heard this song and Scott sang that line. |

| This is one of many songs that hit me real hard off of 12 bar blues. I feel this song is about trying to stay off of alchohal/ drugs. All for the sake of his significant other not having to deal with the humilation that comes with being with Scott due to Scott being a drug addict. | |

Ty Cobb was the greatness baseball player of all time. 2nd on all time hit list. 2nd all time base stealer. One of only a handful of players to win the Triple- Crown. I loved this song as a kid. Boy Soundgarden's lyrics were so incredibaly difficult to dicifer. Especially without the lyric page. I always assumed the chorus went like: I HATE YOU SO FUCK YOU ALL. CAN I HAVE MY MENTHOL (cigarette). Instead of " Hard headed fuck you all. Just add it up. To the hot rod death toll". This was the best album in Chris Cornell's career. This song is a great pick me up. Also, I encourage you to see the movie "Cobb". If you are a fan of Soundgarden then you'll be a fan of "Cobb". I totally hated baseball, but after I saw "Cobb" a few years back I love the sport. Find myself going to Phillies game frequently. |

Going off past history, all of Blink's songs were written about experiences from the time they were 13- 19 yr old teenagers. Blink's last album (2003) went in some odd directions because they exhausted most of their teenage experiences to write about. IMO this song is about an early 20's drug addicted chick. She is pretty hot as well. Mark, as a typical male, wants to f*ck. Still there is greater importance to being with this girl than getting laid. "We don't give a f*ck what the price is. So just leave us to our own devices & we'll leave you alone" = Devices are means of getting high. Xtacy, Pills, Weed. That is for the chick. Mark only indulges in Alcohol though. The PRICE is what elder people warn them with. Like your parents' telling you that you'll wind up with liver disease if you continue to drink. So basically Mark & this chick wanna get f*cked up and be with each other and the consequences are not important. "Only wanna be part of your breakdown" = Breakdown means you have had enough. When I worked at a bar we would say breakdown after last call. When the night is over. All that matters to Mark is when himself and the girl have left the bar/ club, and are alone. " A little something just to take off the edge a little more and I'll fall off the planet entirely" = The line "I'll fall off the planet entirely" IS NOT referring to Mark. It is referring to the chick that is not only looking " to take off the edge" but she is on the edge of a cliff. Close to falling off. Metaphorically speaking. The chick states: all I need is a little to take the edge off. And Mark finishes her sentence in his head by saying she will fall off the planet entirely. This chick is an absolute wreck. She is capable of ruining Mark with her drug abuse. I can't help but think about my buddy's recent experience with a girl that wound up dead due to a drug overdose. My buddy was an alcoholic but never messed with anything other than the bottle. This girl was sorta his girlfriend. He loved her to death (no pun intended). She always hung out with him and had a real close bond with him. The girl was a skank . She would eat an HIV patiences' asshole if meant she could score some blow. Eventually she started to mainline her dope and that was the straw that broke the camels back. My friend was an absolute mess for 6 moths and still hasn't totally recovered to this day. Whenever he brings her up I do my darnedest to change the subject. I can't tolerate all that sobbing from a dude. Even as traumatic as his experience was. Anyways sorry for rambling on. Hope this help with your interpretation of the song. |

I've really enjoyed this song. Up until today I felt that it was a song about a handsome/ studly dude who was to nervous to ever hook up with any chicks. This song is one that I can relate to bcuz it describes myself as a male kid in high school through community college. i.e. Always apprehensive around chicks. Looking for my buddies to hang with at social gatherings. I can not tell you how much p***y I missed out on bcuz I was always awkward & uncomfortable around girls that would be prospects for hookin up with. Chicks literally throwing themselves at me. Older, younger, I could of been getting laid quite a lot. Most chicks said I look like Nick Cater, and mind you that this was back in the late 90's. Back when the" Back-door Boys" were at their peak. After reading that lyric that has a homosexual interpretation by those on this board, it finally dawned on me after listening to this song for 7 years that this guy is queer. All in all I think it is about a possible bisexual guy with several layers to himself. It leads to his nervousness around chicks. Just to clarify...... I'm a str8 24 yr old dude. Also, I don't think anyone, not even my closest friends, were aware of how I had virtually no success with chicks. So even if a friend of mine was a song writer or poet that wouldn't have wrote a piece like "Jet Pack" about me. Mainly bcuz I would simply lie and tell people, " O ya, I got with that girl". When in fact I never did. And lying like that did get me into a few sticky situations. |
