| Good Old War – Coney Island Lyrics

This song seems to be about the contradiction between two places. The place where he is on his way to going, and the hometown that has his heart (the city that he knows so well and loves). But, it might not be the best place for him. Its always hard to let go of something that's familiar.
He says "its already taken everything". It may not be the best place for him to be, but for some reason he loves it. Although, it seems hes on his way to bigger and better things somewhere else.
I am also very attachment to my hometown and felt a connection the first time I heard this song. This is one of the few songs I liked the FIRST time I heard it. Beautiful! |

| Cute Is What We Aim For – Loser Lyrics

This song is absolutely religious. To me, this "loser" is a person who brings others down because they are religious. He/She makes themselves feel better, or "wins" by bringing others down because they believe.
And I'm glad this site finally has the lyrics posted correctly. Every site is visited read:
"To make a life look sweet." instead of:
"To make a life of sin look sweet."...Trying to take some of the religious meaning out of the song. |

Eamon, sure this song isn't very deep, but by no means do the lyrics suck. A song doesn't always have to be a search for the meaning, sometimes its simple and straight forward like this one- still a great song, |

I agree with you RockXWL, but I also think he is telling this girl she is great. She obviously has some insecurities and keeps running to this guy to make her feel better though. Seems as though hes saying, get over it, your great and this is the last time I'm going to tell you that. |

This song is plain and simple. It talks about drinking your life away, only to wake up and do it again. This vicious circle that many people put themselves through, but it keeps happening season after season. And he just cant escape it, because he loves it, 'misery is so beautiful.' |

It's about time changing, people changing, but staying the same. Hoping that you'd be somewhere in a year, in two, 20 years from now. Also regrets about things you should have done, so that maybe things would be different now. Countmycrows I think you hit it right on, thats exactly the way i interpret the song. I don't think its just about relationships, but a lot of different issues in life. |

This is actually one of my favorite counting crows songs- I can't believe there are only two comments. I'm 18 years old, but for some reason this song stirs up a lot of emotion for me. It is exactly what i don't want to be saying when I'm 40. He still does not have it figured out, he's still wanting to change things about himself.
He still wants all these things, "I wanna buy me a good heart, and a conscience, maybe raise some children
I wanna get me a good wife, and God and God and God and God."
And after 40 years, he still hasn't made himself into this person that he wants to be. So it takes 40 years... to get where, to have accomplished what? |

I love the way this song progresses. It seems to be about wanting to change yourself, and the different stages you go through to get there.
He switches old man to younge man in two very similar lines. Is "old man" an older flawed self, or an older wiser self?
Reguardless i think the song is very repetive on purpose. You keep trying and you get no where. The song ends on a depressing note. "I think you better turn your ticket in And get your money back at the door." |

The instruments in this song make it so beautiful. Not one of my favorite's lyrically though. The song seems very straight forward, i've always preferred songs in which i have to search for the meaning. |

artist have a way of making something so depressing and terrible, absolutly beautiful when in reality it is not even remotly beautiful. But, this song is powerful. I feel like this person needs to let it all go and fall down. Adam refers to himself "you just look alot like me", and "fall asleep next to me" Judging by the rest of the song, i wouldnt take falling asleep so literal. It sounds like a suicide note. |

This song really does seem to be about a girl who is crazy, i see myself in every line of the song. And like phil FFF said, I also like to realte this song directly to the planet mercury... merucry can only be seen at night, (maybe this girl only lets herself go at night), or how its temperature is constanly changing (she is constanly changing). |

I think this song is about how painful it can be to be intelligent. And how once you start seeing life in this different light you can never go back. "The world begins to disappear. The worst things come from inside here" |

I try to take songs less literally. I think he is talking about himself as this thing that is dead. I feel he is in this state of misery/depression which is almost like being dead. But, for some reason it can all be so beautiful. |
