So, apparently the girl and the guy are separated by pretty much an entire country. I think the girl wanted to be with him, but she ended up seeing that they wouldn't work out (probably because of the distance). So she tells the guy to release her because she sees that no matter what, the guy is still going to pursue his dream of a musical career in cali. So he wrote her a song, wanting to keep her because he really truly did love her, but in the end she still wanted to split up. Pretty sad song. The other possibility I get from it is possibly the guy screwed up while he was in cali .. maybe hooked up with a girl for a night or something. Somehow the girl finds out about it, and even tho the guy regrets it the girl still wants to split up with him. Pretty sad song. =[ |

So yeah, apparently this song was written about one of the band member's loss of his grandmother. What I get from this song is pretty much ending a relationship with someone. Everything is cold and 'turning brown' around them because the relationship is ending. In a sense, it's dieing - just like things do in winter. But, it turns out that the guy is actually better off in the long run because he realizes that now it's warmer than what he felt back in the relationship. In other words, life is a little better without the girl. Just like the coming of spring, he turns over a new page in his book and prepares for something wonderful to bloom. At least that's what I get out of it. =] |

I think this song is about a relationship where the guy and the girl are trying to get back together after a really bad fight or breakup. The girl wants the guy back, and she wants him to love her just like he did in the beginning of the relationship. You know .. that happy-go-lucky, true fluffy love you feel for someone. But the guy can't because he's been hurt too bad by the fighting. As much as he wants to glue the relationship back together and be happy with the girl, he still remembers all the horrible things the girl said to him during the fight ('you spit words off the tip of your tongue, but you forget that the ears that you trust come back with everything that you said'). And so he just keeps slipping away. This song totally rings true about how it's so hard to trust someone after a really bad breakup, especially when the breakup was the other person's fault or the other person was really mean during it. Props to NP for an amazing song! |

This song is pretty much just about missing someone who is very, very dear to your heart. Makes me think of a relationship that ended badly. You still have all the same feelings towards the person you loved, but it seems like the other person could care less. And you wonder.. wow.. does she even miss me at all? But you still want the best for the person, even if they are really ignorant of your current state. I agree with raebites - this song is a sad yet very comforting song. It's nice to know that there are other people who've been in your situation. In other words, even though it may seem it, you are not alone in your suffering. |

| So, it sounds like a pretty nasty breakup to me. Looks like the girl is splitting up with the guy. She probably tells him that she still loves him and what not, and that she'll always be there for him, etc, etc. .. but deep inside the guy knows that she's just lieing. Maybe he knows that she's cheating on him. In any case, knowing what he does tears the guy apart, and he goes into a fit over his broken heart in an attempt to erase the memories of the girl who meant so much to him. The verses are definitely about him thinking about the relationship. I interpret the first verse as him reading a goodbye letter that the girl gave to him as she was leaving because she couldn't actually tell him face to face. Probably because she was cheating on him with another guy behind his back. In the second verse, he tells of how he thought that their relationship was perfect, and I guess he's just wondering how she could leave.. what was it that he did wrong? Eventually, he drifts off into that sleep that you get when you're super exhausted, totally worn out from being so depressed. That's when the chorus hits. He dreams that he's walking beside an ocean, reminiscing about all the past events in the relationship (those are the silhouette dreams), and he asks God if everyone there was make believe. In other words, was everything he saw in the relationship real, or were there things that he wasn't really aware of, and maybe that's why the girl left. Was the relationship really that perfect? The ending part is him wanting to meet with the girl again. He wants to hear that she'll love him 'til the death. He wants to know that she'll never let him go. And because she actually did leave him, he's scared to death. He's torn .. heartbroken. This song was definitely the easiest to relate to for me. I think anyone who's been in a deep relationship that ended by the other person leaving them can relate. This is undoubtedly my favorite song off the album, if only because I can put myself exactly in the guy's shoes. 'You be the anchor that keeps my feet on the ground... So, I'm thinking he wrote this song when they were on tour ('nothing feels like home, you're a thousand miles away'). It's pretty easy to picture the guy sitting in a hotel room reminiscing over the love of his life. No wonder they're engaged now - this song probably is what won katie back. I think this song is really easy to relate to when you get out of a deep relationship with someone and you still really want to be with them, but circumstances dictate otherwise. You think you can live without the person, but in reality you know that without em, you'll only be miserable at best. |

Well, it's obvious the guy found something out when he was in jersey that really shattered his thinking about whatever relationship he was in. In the first verse, I hear the ending part as 'I do that thing you know that I do, where I find inspiration, well this is me breaking down when [cuz] jersey just got colder'. So, I think that could totally refer to drug use or self-induced depression or something like that. So, in order to express his feelings he's writing the song. In the second verse, he continues the theme of him writing the song. He writes about how the girl is hurting him (putting the hook where it hurts the most). The part about the girl with fire is about her inspiring him to pursue his career, sending a flame (the band) down the east coast. For the interlude/bridge thing, I interpret that as him just hurting and missing the girl. Then, finally, for the chorus.. jersey just got colder because he's lost the girl (the flame) who inspired him, and he wishes so bad that she'd come back. Great song =] |

Well, I think actually it's the girl saying to herself the whole 'you really need to settle down' thing. I think she's a wreck because of the break up, but she knows that he doesn't love her anymore (he was moving on while she was trying to pass the time). The girl still likes the guy, but she knows the only way that she'll be able to keep moving on with her life is to settle down and forget his lies. At least that's how I take it. =] |

Yeah, this song is about a guy and a girl who broke up. I get the feeling that the girl dumped the guy. The guy is a wreck because he loved the girl so much, and she doesn't seem phased at all by the breakup. He probably poured his heart out to the girl about how much he loved her and missed her ('tear me apart for pouring out my heart') but she still seems really cold and apathetic ('it wouldn't phase you in the least'). And I think the girl ended up hooking up with another guy. So now the only way the guy can get over his heartbreak is to hate the girl for acting the way she did and not even caring about his own feelings. He wants her to feel bad about her actions.. and I think she does end up feeling bad towards the end. That's the whole ransom part.. he stole her heart back. But I think at that point the guy realizes that she wasn't worth it anyway.. and that's why he says 'everything that's in me says that i hate you now'. He wants her to feel the same misery he was and probably still is in. It's a really sad song, but extremely easy to relate to. When you really like someone and he/she dumps you for another person, sometimes it seems like the only way to move on with your life is to hate the person. You get to a point where you can't trust them anymore because of their actions, even if they do end up feeling bad for what they've done and want you back. |

I think it might have been circumstances that pushed the guy away from the girl.. but now he doesn't even care - he just wants more chance to be with the girl he loves. | I think the music video has something to do with relationships. The singer mentions 'everything was new and less watered down before the summer turned to brown' .. and the band members all start out with brown - wearing brown, brown instruments, etc. But eventually the little kid meets up with one of his friends (the girl) and their relationship is young and carefree (shown by the change of brown to pink). I think this song is about a guy and a girl who were together for a while, but for some reason they think that their relationship will have to end (the girl more-so than the guy). So both of them decide to go out for one more night of good times together. The guy wants to prove to the girl that they've only just gotten done season one, and season two is just around the corner. Uh.. after reading through the lyrics a few times I think this is about a guy who is leaving a girl (#1).. maybe driving away after he slept with her? I think in a way he was trying to get over another girl (girl #2)... or maybe he actually still loves #2? But I think the one he was with in bed (#1) really loved him, and he feels bad about leaving but he still has feelings for #2. Like he recalls the times that he was left alone (probably from girl #2 leaving him in the past) and he's beginning to see himself as the same kind of bad person through the glimmer of girl #1's eyes. But the guy thinks that if he can make it home by the daylight he'll be able to sleep and not worry about it. That's how I see it. |

Great song.. possibly the one I can most relate to off of the new album. To me this song is about a guy who's left all alone - all his friends and even his girl left him. But I get the feeling that he's coping with it. I think he would like to get back together with his girl ("let's write the story again where I'm your lover and best friend") but I think he finds relief that there are other people who are in the same predicament as he is. In a way, I think he tries to let other people know that he's been alone and lonely just like them - and because they share that common bond they aren't really totally alone. All in all, an amazing song. =) |
