I'm pretty certain it's "I am the best message..." I think in the chorus Roddy actually alternates between singing "You're selling your soul" and "Your selling us all" Great song anyway. |

It's a juxtaposition of two different meanings of 'call me'. It's a brilliant line reagrdless. Harvey Danger are one of my favourite bands for witty, creative lyrics. Sean Nelson's delivery always adds something as well. The "disembodied ringlets..." line is brilliant too. The song is about he wants dive into this relationship and trying to talk round this girl who's not as crazy about him as he is about her. He lists a lot of his flaws that she sees ("call me childish" etc.). "The looming shapes of winter" are dark times just around the corner, so a reference to how she's cautious about entering a relationship with him because it might turn out badly. |

I think "Buy me to the wind, you talk me out of standstill" is "Body to the wind, you taught me how to stand still". I'm not sure about either of the above suggestions for the line beginning 'It's a dedication...', but I can't come up with any better suggestion. There are obvious political overtones, and parts of it make a lot of sense being about his father. It's probably mostly a mix of those two ideas. I'm still not 100% sure about the meaning of the hook line "You have to touch me with kid gloves". It makes perfect sense just as long as I don't think about it too hard. If I try to solidify what I think it means, it seems to fall apart. Great hook though, and this is probably the best song I've heard from the new album. |
