The fact that the songs starts with "HE puts his hand down into his pocket Pulls out a rose and hands it to his girl SHE says, hey man (what you doin')(what you sayin') No, I thought i told you I don't want you here no more" ...kind of makes it obvious that it's meant to be about a women who has been abused by a man, and Pete is singing her story. |

He says it's the most misunderstood song he's ever written. Apparently a lot of people use it for their weddings, which he finds completey ridiculous because of the meaning of the song. It's a love song, but it's about a group of people he ran into one night. The lyrics are exactly what you think they are about and there's no hidden meaning. |
