The following line is "Want to be enlightened like I want to be told the end end yeah" I think it's word play first: the Dark Ages in Europe were followed by the Enlightenment, with the Enlightenment bringing change for the positive. Next, he's saying he wants to stay in the Dark Ages: no one wants to be told the end. He wants to stay where he gets to whisper promises and not own up to what he's doing. It's a sinister line. |

I love the multiple interpretations of Rocking chair Is still without a rocker But is still a chair "still without a rocker" could refer to either the person not sitting in the chair, or the curved piece of wood not on the bottom. The chair has been w/o these things for a while. It's a statement over time. Or The chair w/o a rocker (the person or the wood) doesn't move and is still. It's an instantaneous statement. |

I see the sci-fi stuff as just a means for Wayne to talk about what he wants to - live in the moment. He presents a situation, "What if someone came from the future and said 'The world will end' ?" Wayne is trying to say, look, nothing changes. Your whole life you've only had the present. Live in it. What the future brings doesn't change anything. Or at least it shouldn't change anything. |

| @ZIMsonic - Simon and Garfunkle probably were inspired by that poem too, but I think of "I am a Rock" by S&G when I think of the man being an island. He's emotionally isolated. | |
