This song is about a girl named Townes Adair Jones from South Carolina. She was a student at UCLA and was set up with Harry on a blind date, and apparently Harry liked her enough to write a song about her. Her first name is in the lyrics of the song. |

So the baselines are very similar, but so what? Once you get passed the first 5 seconds, these two songs sound NOTHING alike whatsoever, so I really don't think there's a story behind it.
But if that worries you, you should check out the video below from the Australian comedy group Axis Of Awesome. They do a really great job proving that the majority of pop hit songs from the last 40 years use the same 4 chords:

You guys are pretty much right on with the meaning of the song. I just wanted to add that Jeff (the singer) writes the lyrics to all of Tesla's original songs. Everything he writes and sings comes from the heart, and this song is actually about him having to leave his woman to go on tour. |

Jeff (the singer) wrote this song after he had to have his dog put to sleep. He is a huge animal lover and always takes it very hard when an animal he is close to dies. Another Tesla song, "What You Gve", is about a another dog of Jeff's that died. |
