I really like the weave: dont try to touch me... I'll just rip apart... all the people and things... I wish that I knew... how to care for. She has many of these sneaky flows in her songs, and i like em'. |

This song means for me: I think ILYhahajk is close, but maybe it goes even further. Then again maybe not, but the depth of (lyrical) emotion in the chorus is very strong. Here’s my take: Self-Isolation I’ve been replaced by a machine, a shell of what I was. I don’t want to be with anyone other than you, but I also don’t want to be with anyone at all. You were my best thing that I lost and now I don’t know what I want, because although I want You every which way and sideways, I don’t want anything anymore. Maybe the answering machine is inside the mind and that the voice on tape is memory, somehow representing the distance that has developed. The simple soft mood and calm delivery of verses almost makes me feel like I’m lying in a coma somewhere, listening to people around me talking, and though I want to... I just can’t respond. The use of “I don’t want anyone else” is certainly the sweetest line in this verse, very clever. “I want you back and forth” is another lyrical gem complimenting the indecisive mood of the song perfectly. And of course, I enjoy the metaphorical implications about “machines”, the garbled bits about “robots and what-not”, and “sleeping.” I really like this one a lot! |
