Does anyone else sense a noticeable Transatlantic vibe through most of this song? The riff at approximately 2:18 sounds like it belongs on SMPTe, along with the extended volume swell section. Perhaps this is why this song is my favorite on the album. |

Even so, that does not mean that it cannot be interpreted to refer to a romantic relationship. I can see pengy's point very clearly in the lyrics as well. The "spindrift" signifies the confusion and difficulty of dealing with the person, whether it be because (s)he's very coy or generally hard to deal with. Just another example of how lyrics mean different things to different people. Awesome song. |

Regardless of whether you like or dislike the direction of this song...you must admit...it's REALLY fun to sing along with, lol.
And, without question, this song is about a ghost pharaoh returning from the dead to haunt a village. As was said earlier, it's straight from Petrucci's mouth. |

Yep, definitely about a vampire. Petrucci mentioned in the Systematic Chaos EPK that all of his lyrics were from a fictional perspective, and he specifically mentioned a song about vampires. |

Surprise...another awesome Dream Theater song. As far as the meaning, it seems to be telling a story of a man consumed by evil, who is then shown the light and saved from his hell. Just a nice, dark tale with a happy ending. |

This may be just me, but I interpret this song to be from Jesus Christ's perspective, attempting to convince a lost soul to free herself from the purgatory between life and the afterlife.
Regardless, this is one of my favorite DT songs. Excellent. |
