they said Jesus, not God. Yes, lots of Christian bands point to GOD in all their songs, what Profecy means is that they don't nessicarily say Jesus in all their songs. |

Definatly drug abuse, AND probably could be interpreted as being about abuse. The girl in this song wa abused and turned to drugs to stop it.
"How can you expect to win this war,
If you're too afraid to fight?"
^^ To me, he's challenging her, saying that she can't expect to kick her addiction if she's too scared to give it up. |

another thing I wanna know is..why is it that the world can make fun of Christians, but when Christians make a song that is supposed to be a joke everyone gets all hot and bothered? It's a double standard I tell you. |

*sigh* this discussion is starting to drive me nuts. Ok, Manson was raised in Church. Whoopee. Going to Church doesn't make you a Christian any more than going to Mcdonald's makes you a hamburger. I'm sorry, he is CLEARLY NOT a Christian. A Christian would not say "To all you Christians out there, F*&%$ BEEP BEEP BEEP." He out and out opposes Christianity and swears about them from the platform. So if he were a Christian, he would then be swearing at himslef. That doesn't seem likely. |

I love this song, it's so beautiful, and so incredilby differnt from anything Relient K has ever done b4..my dad hates RK and he actually liked this song. He laughed really hard at the part about "It's easier to be sure you love someone
When a father inquires with the barrel of a gun." He siad it reminded him of that song "White Wedding." :P |

A girl who never heard of that movie trilogy befoer got really confused by it though. |

this song rox! Oh by the way guys, here's a tip: If you have an emotional girlfriend and she likes Reilent K, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES think that it's a cute idea to buy her the cd with a mood ring taped to it. This did not happen to me (I would have laughed it off,) but a guy friend of mine did that to his girlfriend and wound up with an earful and a sore groin. |

I find that comment about damned funny. In teh NIV version of the Bible in the book of Matthew, Jesus says to teh Pahrisees "How can yous escaped being DAMNED to hell?" so I say if Jesus can say damned in that context, then SO CAN RELIENT K!! :P Damned is only a swear word when used in the context of an explitive, not in the context of being doomed. Secondly, Condemed would not work in this sense becaue Matt being the brillinat songwriter he is, had to make an assonance, (hAND and dAMNED.) |

I think this songhas to do with a mother or fahter's love for thier child, wanting to protect them, knowing thta the world will be hard, but they will always love them. It makes me cry though, because it came at a point in my life when I felt abandoned by my parents, left alone to fend for myself in a way. But I took comfort that even though my paernts weren't there for me, my Heavenly Father God held me "safe in His arms." |

Ok I have a slightly differnt intepretation of this song:
I think it's about "quick-fix" Christinas. Aka the Christians who think that there's just a simple cure to everything, and they only help people in order to stand on a pdedestal and go "oh look at me and the good I'm doing for mankind, and they don't give acrap aobut the actual person who's suffering. |

Does anyone else see this song as a more intrapersonal version of "Awakening?" Like it's teh same message, but in more personal terms, like more within yourself, more restricted to jsut you? But it's also about making a difference in this world. Like the fire bruning in you is passion, and when you're hurting and lost, it doesn't mean the fire's lost, it just means that your futrue has to be filled with "kerosene and electric sparks." (Fuel for your fire.) |

Personally, I don't find it dark. I find it desperate, yes, but also full of hope. One can't truly move on until one recognizes what state they're in. I think it's about becoming alive, liek a person has been sleeping through life, has been numbed by the world and daily routine, but thye are suddenly awakening to how much they really need to find hope and a "real life." |

I don't think it's to his wife. For a long time I did, but there's a few parts in the song that make me question it. A few songs, like "Playing for Keeps," "Might of Ben Hur," "Amateur Lovers," etc are obviously about girls, but I really think this one is about Jesus. The "Open arms" makes me think of when people surrender to Jesus. "Everything that's fair in love and war" and "burning after more" seem intimate, like the statements are kind of "out there" to be talking about a woman. But I guess some people could take it that way. |

I see it as a person who has wandered away from where they really should be in life, they've lost everything, they're at the end of their rope. And now they realize they've been living a lie and they have a choie: do they get up and move on or do they stay stuck in their past. the "Forgiveness is right where you fell part means that God can redeem you from right where you are, that you don't have to be perfect to come to Him. (Sorry to you people who may insist that Switchfoot isn't a Christian band but that's my opinion on the meaning.) |

THis is the song I'm named after..when he sings "You are golden, child" just the way he sings it...it sounds so pure and tender. I love listening to this song when I'm having a hard time, it makes me want to cry.
Byt the way, does this song remind anyone else of that poem in the Outsiders, "Nature's first green is gold" etc?
To me, the gold is a metaphor for innocence in redemption, for beauty that you can only get from pain. |

What strikes me about this song is that both the parent and the child seem to be at a loss for what to do...(I was sitting there waiting in my room for you, You were waiting for me too). I think this song is primarily about cutting. ("Do I have to wear my scars like a badge on my arm?") But then it sounds like something traumatic happened to her (" Has anybody seen what's been done? Where was my defense? No one heard my protest...") Whatever it was that happened to her, she felt she had no voice and that is why she asks if she has to scream to be heard. In the end it changes, because she realizes that although humans will let her down, God never will. |

I have a very odd interpretation of this, but here goes:
I think this song is about how the world is tearing us down, (when all they want is for us to live in fear, How long can we hold on?) Even when everything we have and everything we trust in falls apart, something inside us is still hanging on to the truth, is still allowing us to hold fast to what we know and believe to be true. |

My favorite parts of this song:
"I was sitting there waiting in my room for you
You were waiting for me too"
To me, it means that they both realize that there is a wall between them, that their relationship isn't the same anymore but neither one knows what to do, or maybe neither wants to be the first to apologize.
"It started getting better but it's easy not to fight when I'm not with you"
I think that means that they gave each other space, and that made it better, but it wasn't solved. It was easy not to fight when they don't even talk. |

This song reminds me of my friendship with my best friend, it's like the anthem of our friendship. It's pretty self-explanatory, it's about how friends go through life's trials together, and how a true friend is there for you. You can share both the good and the bad times together. |

Wow FlyleafFan, that is amazing when he said about who you think it might be Korey. I'm a huge Skillet fan (a pan head :P) Anyway, I think it's about both cutting and suicide. She has been cutting herself and she's tired and trapped and doesn't want to cry, she wants to pretend that everything is alright, even with God. But both she and God know it's a lie, which is why they both sing that part. God knows her better than her parents, so he sing the first part of the second verse, and she talks about how she's sick of having her feelings brushed aside. Anyway, the suicide explanation makes the most sense for the part that says "I won't let you say good-bye, and I LL BE YOUR REASON WHY." |

To me, this song is about bing a people pleaser. She wants to do everything right and is in a position where she feels trapped, like she has to do everything right. Eventually, she got tired of being "puppet-like" and lost it. She knows that it's not what she truly believes or thinks but she can't be any different. She feels like a traitor to herself because she is being someone she's not to please others and therefore is betraying herself. In the second verse, "Oh my naked skin"... she begins to stop living the lie and becomes free by allowing herself to be who she really is. |

I don't think it necessarily has to be about a guy or be a love song, it could just as easily be a best friend, who has to say goodbye but knows that her friend will still always be in her heart. It could also be about death but I think it sounds more like they're just far apart, because of the line that says "they get lost in the tears of this goodbye," it sounds like their final good bye is one where her friend is awake and alert when saying good bye. |

I read somewhere that this song was inspired by an actress, (I think it was JLo), who was seen wearing a little skimpy dress. Tiffany (the lead singer) felt that inside, whether she recognized it or not, she was searching for real love, something she didn't have to fake pretend for to get. |
