this song is totally along the line of buddhist thinking. the references to the motionless wheel (samsara/reincarnation), nothing is real (the ideal of emptiness) and the fact that we are wasting our lives in the waiting line instead of going out being good people. i dunno, i'm a buddhist, yet i didn't realize the significance of this song until the ither night when it came on while i was studying. i've always loved this song, and its funny that maybe i caught the underlying meaning without realizing it. what do yall think? |

after discussing and listening to this song, my boyfriend helped me see a different meaning of this song. CCR is from the South and came out during the Civil Rights movement, so i think (and so does he) that this song is about the KKK and them burning crosses on people's lawns. it talks about how they burnt the crosses, an effigy, to be against the blacks, but in the end, everyone gets hurt because "few are left to watch the ashes...". I think fogerty was talking about how everyone loses in this kind of situation. |
