k so i only read like the first few comments but She does NOT look like a hooker! I think she looks hot. and beautiful. whatever. I mean her outfits are SEXY, but I think its trashy (but I did hear that they had to get some of the dresses from S&M shops-- which I also thought was cool) AND HER HAIR IS BADASS WTF and at the end of the unedited version i swear to god i just hear her saying 'COME INNNN ME' now you can call her a slut for THAT, but I think her look is really cute. |

I see this song as a conversations, both with himself and between he and a shrink. Talk to me David, how can I help? Opening line is the shrink. You see you sold me quick fixes in the past I keep them in the medicine cabinet, but you should see what I keep in my closet David replies, calling antidepressants 'quick fixes', those are for the medicine cabinets. but they don't work anymore. In his closet, this could either be his alternative solutions (drinking, whatever) or (more likely) it's the skeletons in his closet, his problems, he's saying these medications are nothing compared to what those demons do to him. His altitude is his level in hell (I agree with the hell test thing, especially since they now have shirts which are maps of Dante Aligheri's maps of Hell) My head flies high, The birds think I’m one of their own The birds thank God.. I really don't think this song is about an acid trip or just about turning into a werewolf. I'd totally disregard the acid trip cause fearbefore's lyrics are generally much more thought out than just writing about a crazy trip they had. And while the song is obviously about turning into a werewolf that's definetly not all there is to it, in this album they really tend to use concepts to protray a different idea. That sentance didn't turn out too well, sorry if it was hard to understand.. Please pull me up with the oceans This is him turning into the werewolf, the moon pulls the ocean, he's willing the moon to pull him into that form again too Music is seen colors are heard A dark vision of senses Is this tasting the world This is Synesthesia. Synesthesia is a neurologically based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. There are a lot of different types of synesthesia but this song is talking about when a person will hear music and see colors that correspond to the pitch, notes or chords. I'm not saying that david or adam is a synesthete but that would just be the proper term for whats being described here, i don't think it's drugs i think he's just playing with the concept of having expanded senses. to ruin the illusion? Is this primal or futile? Is this instinct or evil? Is this right or wrong? I think these lines highlight the real theme of the song, I think it's very much about primal instincts and whether or not they're right. My boyfriend and I go on about this a lot. Humans have so many primal feelings, I mean take lust for example, society teaches us that being promiscuous is wrong but it's also just in our nature to reproduce so the question arises, why is this wrong? because they say so? I think to be allowed to be 'pulled up with the oceans', to become animalistic for a night and explore those primal instincts and without care of the social reprocussions is really what this song is about. A desire to truly indulge in the world you would have to be less than a human is expected to be, a beast, a werewolf, in order to experience everything to the fullest extent. |

So I know there are like 4 pages of comments here but I only bothered to read 1, oh well. I think this song definetly has a 'the end is near' thing going on. There's lots of opinions here already so I just thought I'd add something I hadn't seen (on the first page.. heheh) Conor definetly a very political man and with this immigration thing going on I don't think the girl at the end of the world being mexican was just random (indeed nothing in the song seems to be), I think it can also simply mean that the meek shall inherit the earth. I like benjam326's theory of the girl & the spray cans representing the world maturing too though, maybe the two ideas could coincide. |

first of all, it is for sure about sleep paralysis, my boyfriend and i asked david about it when we saw them after a show. i asked him if drowning the old hag was about sleep paralysis and he said it was but that he (david) only got it a couple of times and adam is the one that gets it pretty often, he's the one that wrote the song. since not too many people seem to know what sleep paralysis is i'll try to explain it i guess, during REM sleep your muscles are paralyzed (called REM atonia) so that you won't physically act out your dreams but when your sleep cycle is disrupted REM atonia may occur too quickly (that's when sleep paralysis happens when you're falling asleep) or (more commonly) it may not wear off when you wake up so that you're fully conscious but can't move at all. It's sometimes called The old Hag cause people will feel as if there is a crushing weight on their chest (or back depending on what position they're sleeping in) and it was often believed that this weight was due to a demon or ghost tormenting the sleeping person. Other attributes of SP include hallucinations and weird sensations such as floating, spinning, or being under or in water which could explain his references to a head full of water and drowning. |

Ohhh man I'm nerding out with this one, I read the first lyrics and was like "oh yeah thats pretty acurate..." and then someone made corrections and it made more sense, then I saw musicsinger's comment and it's just weird how you can listen to a song thinking you know the lyrics, then you set different lyrics to it and it makes perfect sense too. personally i'm going with musicsinger's. Also, the Sister being Death does make perfect sense and I (like the nerd I am) felt lame for not catching it, Gerard likes the Sandman series, where Death is Sleep's sister. Makes perfect sense for him to be facing death. I love this song. I loooove the lyrics, and the fact that I'm still not entirely sure what they are kind of makes it cooler. I wish they'd go more in this & Bury Me In Black's direction with their next album. |
