| The Shins – Phantom Limb Lyrics | 16 years ago |

So I was googling for the name "Nemarca" and found this: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=23109512 A myspace video of an Australian(?) girl named Nemarca who claims she was trying to get The Shins to put her name in a song. Is this real? I am a little skeptical. |

Go to Vancouver in August. Get drunk and high. Crash on couches. Feel awesome about life. Stay up all night. Come to your senses at about 10am on a weekday, wherever you are. Listen to this song. You'll get it. |

| Matthew Good Band – My Out Of Style Is Coming Back Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is about the waning of style, especially the images or skins the author puts on. Sometimes it's good to be cool. Sometimes cool gets old. It's cyclical, people get sick of it and to a lot of people "cool" is something that they just never "get". The "my / our" contrast helps reinforce the idea that everybody experiences superficial image as a facet of life in some way or another. |

| Destroyer – Crystal Country Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The last line encapsulates the song's meaning really well as the music degrades into a desperate chord and everything breaks down into profanity. If "everything must break to be beautiful", the last line is Bejar ending a relationship. This point is driven by the suddenness of the transition from the once pleasant song. |

This song is told from the perspective of the narrator, who walks in as their friend is just about to die. The narrator's friend has just committed suicide. say hello == say something, wake up remain close to me == don't go no good bye suicide mystery == don't leave me wondering why you did it. the rat in your brain == a metaphor for your spirit, the rat, you were born in the year of the rat (1984) turns a wheel connected to your guts == your spirit drives you and all your faults are in me == and I'm going to blame myself for this what would you say if you lived on tv / besides all the things they told you to == when people suicide on TV or it's a dying scene they always have a last dramatic line that explains why they did it were stuck inside our own machine == I can't leave my body to come be with you when you die say hello / well is it strange where you are == is it strange in heaven / wherever you end up when you die? where you are / where you used to be kind of free == now you are ultimately free, versus when you were kind of free on earth are they laughing at you == for killing yourself, for ending your mortal life - the saints, spirits, other souls, are they laughing at you for doing it? the rat in your brain rules the world == when you die, you become part of the universal force or whatever, heaven, the continuum, whathave you. it makes you omniscient. from the comfort of your living room == you're at home now in heaven but you're so powerful tell me are we leaving soon == since you know all, can you tell me when the world is going to end / when I'm going to die / when we'll be together again? |

| Sleater-Kinney – Jumpers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"four seconds was the longest wait" Earlier in the song she mentions: I spend the afternoon in cars I sit in traffic jams for hours The subject of the song had spent all this time frustrated by her life while she sat in bad traffic on her way to school. Now, the day she decides it's not worth it to go through that frustration again, she gets a taxi to the bridge she's going to jump off - and the taxi never stops moving for more than a four second wait. |
