| To me it seems as if it means the change in life from the young girl to being a woman. She isn't the same anymore. The scarlet lips meaning the breaking of her virginity. The "murder" symbolic for the change from the innocent girl to the fully flowered wild rose (the woman) she became. The rose he puts between her teeth being the love act. All beauty must die = all innocence gets lost and the sadness of no return. The river a symbol of the passing of live episodes with no return. I love this song, I love Nick Cave's ballads. To me they are open to any speculations and that is what makes the great artist. | |
