Phantogram – Let Me Go Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm not sure what this is about. However... recent events shape it like this:

It's told from the perspective of a boy/guy.

The golden glow are his tears (you know those halo's you get when you cry a lot?)
Which he's crying because his girlfriend or significant other or whatever left him without saying so.

I believe the next part says "bow of my soul", which i think is intending to mean "as in reverence, submission, salutation, recognition, or acknowledgment." or moreso "to yield; submit". Memories, can you show me the one that has a hold over me? can you show me the one I love back home? And in this case, the answer is no because all he remembers is the leaving

*he kills himself*

You can get me ready for my funeral. Get me ready to lead the procession of all the people I 'thought' I knew

But he really did know them, and they him, and he really did love people back home. And even though he's now dead, he realizes how incredibly young he was

You try to forget the death, but just can't, because it isn't something you just forget. It's always there.

And he wanted to believe that she would try. And lastly, and finally, and repeatedly, set me free "let me go"....

panini's right. "tie me up with rope or leather"

in the chorus it's "Think of wicked lies"

and there's a part where he speaks and I'm not sure about all of it, but this is what i got out of it:

cruelty will never work
you have to need for it to hurt
tenderness insures the pain
trade your trust, a mind restraint
emanent the mark will make a kiss that won't evaporate
written out in breath and blood
every mop a map of love

Roughly... a paid S&M session where the person being paid want's 'real' gold in his hands. The life of another person perhaps.

Interesting song.

Heh. I can't believe I just posted that. But... yah.

It makes sense. i don't like thinking of it that way though. I think it's something just too simple anyway. Best part is... it's however you want to interpret it.

PeaceLate.

So. Yup. Amazing song. And I agree with you Tokyo. A guy uses all of his "past attractions" to get with this girl. They have their thing, she says love doesn't last. Funny thing is, this guy thinks it does, so much so that no love lasts. "Then again it can all go up in flames" -- as though there's still 'that' option. She doesn't say "I love you" and here is where the song blurs for me. There's the clear, they have sex again, and she's really fucked up ("but I love a good trainwreck"). Then he goes and kills her. Or there's the... He turns her over, pins her down and says as he looks into her eyes, "Promise you that this is forever or till one of us dies". Which would ensue a threat. Which leads me to believe that she then gets raped. Hence:

"You taste like tear stains and could of beens
But I love a good trainwreck.
Your hair balled up inside my fist
You tell me don't get to attached, like this is just
entertainment"

She's crying because... well he's raping her. Which would be why her hair is balled up, and then she says don't get too attatched, you know, like in one of those tones someone would say when they're talking to some complete fucking psycho, and he says she said it "like this is just entertainment" meaning, it's serious fucking business, because either she's gonna love him or... "Then again this can all go up in flames" -- She dies.

So yup. My interpretation of the song.

Amazing--Fucked up. But amazing...

Oh. Forgot to mention:

He wants to run away because the girl continues to talk to him and he doesn't want to tell her no.

The End.

I think it's about two people who are destined to be together, so destined they feel as one. And yet they are still, for some reason apart. Perhaps: He met her over the internet, they fell in love, he was put on probation by her mother from 1000 miles away and within the probation stipulations he has all contact with his love forbidden and he doesn't know what to do. "Just trying to keep the world from smashing, crashing in." Sounds silly. But it's what's happening to me right now. I really do think so though. The first part I mean.

Two people are in love but for some reason apart. When they feel as one, and yet aren't together, the world really does seem to crumble sometimes. He just wishes he was a better man, and knew what to do. "UR..."

Humans are so fucked up. Sometimes I wish we all had more of a brain and less of a heart.

...but really just more of a brain.

Well. The wonderful thing about music is that it has many interpretations--as many interpretations as it is interpreted. For this song, I see it meaning many things, however, at this time in my life, it is about a struggle between two people: a man and a woman.

In this instance, a woman preaches to a man contradictions. Do this--don't do this--and she does or does not do them herself. He doesn't want to deal with it, and definitely doesn't want her telling him his position in things. Next lines are self-explanatory. He feeds his anger with what she preaches, and he bleeds forever, but because what could save him, is causing him to bleed, there's not a thing she can do. These next lines are kind of funny, because, when I first heard this song.. 5 years ago(?), I thought he was saying "I will confront you--will you confront me". I know that's not what it is, but it's ironic that it would fit here so pleasantly. He's saying, I'm telling you what to do, I do what you do for me. Meaning, that's not actually what he means, but, he's just doing what she does to him.

"I do for you what you do for me."

The aliens part is very true. But, don't you think, perchance, he's also making a point with it?

Granted, it's obvious that it 'is' about aliens but a situation like this (meaning in how he describes it), could relate to so many other things. Sometimes when shit hits the fan and everything is fucked up, you just have to let go, but can't.

Sometimes you have to collapse before you can explode into freedom.
