| Nightwish – FantasMic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The "girl in the rain" is undoubtedly Mulan. References in there to Fantasia, The Black Cauldron, Sleeping Beauty, and countless others. | |

| The song that originally got me into DF. Beautiful opening, and then some of their fastest guitar work of all time. Amazing acapella chorus, too. Can't wait for the remastered version... | |

That is by far the best interpretation I have ever heard for the song, and I've been seeking one a long time. That's my one question for Tony, should I manage to meet him this fall. What is this song really about? |

"I'm a doorman at my Death Row. You faceless foe of heart An accent, a drop of darkest blood on snow white feather in the tar a tearstain on my frozen face..." Does anyone who posts here actually ever read the lyrics books? Sheesh! |

| Hahah I doubt he really meant Tommy... but I think of Tommy every time I hear that like. (Not to mention he has the most garish [and the longest?] hair of anyone in the gand.) | |

It obviously isn't... intentionally. Why would Jani play and sing on a song about his own treachery? But heck if the lyrics don't fit perfectly. Every single line could be attributed to the situation with Jani. It's disturbing. |

| My sister pointed out that "wolver" means "one who hunts wolves"... so the song is actually essentially a threat--"stop trying to kill us or we'll return the favor". | |

Hard rock and hard rock metal is okay... but this is infinitely better. I know there's no real meaning here, like every DF song, but I have to say that the like "searching through the memories to open the door" without fail makes me think of Kingdom Hearts. |

I laugh at those who think there's any real meaning at all to this song, or any of DragonForce's songs. They're always saying one of two things in interviews when asked about their lyrics: "everyone can interpret them for themselves" or "we write lyrics that fit the music", both of which I think are perfectly true. If you want meaning, you can find it, but the truth is just that the lyrics fit puzzle-piece with the guitar work. It's frantic, insane, goofy guitars... why not frantic, insane, goofy lyrics? Myself, I see all DragonForce lyrics as epic and optimistic--sometimes it's like "things are bad now, but they'll get better", and sometimes it's just about the joys of life, whether that's a fantasy life or not. Most of all, though, they're nihilistic... about literally nothing at all, and there's really nothing wrong with that. Really, who's listening to DragonForce for ZP anyways? He's just good enough to not distract from the guitar solos, and, thankfully, he doesn't puke his lyrics. And by the way, they're my favorite band. If I want meaningful lyrics, I'll listen to Sonata Arctica. If I want to be happy, chill, and rock out, it's ZP/Herman/Sam/Dave/Vadim/Fred all the freakin' way. |

| Sonata Arctica – Wolf & Raven Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I sense the Macbeth undertones too, although if you watch the music video you get a very different story: A man (Kakko) is being chased through the woods by a wolf; he seeks shelter in a mysterious house. He explores the house and finds a beautiful naked woman in the bathtub, who transforms him into a raven, her new servant. The last shot is of the wolf running away from the house--the woman, a werewolf, is in search of more victims to enslave. Throughout the video, Kakko's spirit is seen singing the chorus--"let me go, master I hate you so"--and pleading to "be a human again, mabe someday". It seems he is trapped as a raven in slavery to the werewolf-woman, and has nightmares about the punishment she would inflict for his disobeying--"I had a nightmare, the wolf eating the raven." However, this doesn't explain the next line: "entrails of life on MY plate, and _I_ ate 'em", or the parts about "killing the king", unless that's just supposed to be a mark of his devotion. Anyone who can explain those parts would be really appreciated. |

| Sonata Arctica – White Pearl, Black Oceans Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think it's important to note that she's sailing back home... otherwise she wouldn't be passing his lighthouse. Also, "what broke my bones and mauled me" seems to refer to overwheming exhaustion from his carouse that forces him into slumber and prevents him from returning to the lighthouse in time to light the lamp. I do think he's attacked by the girl's lover--not her father--but that's an effect of the disaster, not a cause. He sees the girl's name inked in his romantic rival's arm right before he's decked onto the ground. And he's definitely suicidal at the end. I think the increased number of "steps"--from a thousand (not a hundred) to ten thousand is symbolic of his despair. |

| Sonata Arctica – The Cage Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Sonata has only done two werewolf songs--FullMoon and Wolf & Raven. This song and "Ain't Your Fairytale" are about real wolves. It's just about a caged wolf who yearns for the freedom of the forests and hills. His threats could be interpreted as either delusionary or authentic--either his captivity has simply led to dreams of a wolf army coming to rescue him, or there actually is such a force. I prefer the first interpretation, it's more realistic and sadder... his rage comes out in these dreams and delusions. And I don't think it has anything to do with Fenir--just because it's metal doesn't make it Norse. I have a mental image of this song, of a captured timber wolf in a foreign zoo, alone and mismanaged in a steel cage, staring endlessly at a single tree on the far hillside, realizing the true meaning of captivity: he isn't even free to look at the tree from another viewpoint. To date, my favorite Sonata song. |
