| Weezer – Can't Stop Partying (feat. Lil Wayne) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Come on, folks. Like lots of more recent Weezer songs, this one is a bit tongue-in-cheek and an "old man's" criticism of all the young celebrities who "can't stop partying." And their excuse that they can't help it because it's something you've got to do with your life if you have the money and the fame. Also, Rivers made a comment in a Pitchfork interview about Lil Weezy's rap interlude, how he loved the imagery of Lil Wayne knowing of his impending murder (and in spite of this and because of this Weezy's partying ("like tomorrow is my funeral")--and hoping that the killer doesn't kill him at the party ("I pray the killer doesn't kill the life of the party"). So while Weezer wrote the song like a pop-hit, it still has their ironic sensibility. I mean, watch the AOL sessions and you can see Rivers in his ironic glory, rocking with all sincerity, surrounded by ridiculousness. (See his costume changes, his invitation of Kenny G, etc.) |

| Say Anything – Goodbye Young Tutor, You've Now Outgrown Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this is a total joke song. He doesn't sing any songs in this forced, breathy manner. Max always writes so sarcastically about love, so it would be uncharacteristic for him to flip all of a sudden and write such a cheesy song. I would also doubt that he'd want any girl to call him "Maxim." I wonder if Maxim's just a reference to a cheesy magazine that I'm sure he loves and hates himself for loving, and to the type of girl fan who he could hook up and trick with such a cheesy, sarcastic song. |

"I’ve been fucking around with the guilt engine" Should be: "I'm done fucking around with the Guilt Engine" |

| The Blow – Parentheses Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Maybe the "deli isle" quote is a cute reference to the first couple of lines. She's saying that most belief systems teach you to keep everything to yourself ("keep one's goods on one's own shelf"), but if there's something on your shelf ("in the deli isle"--maybe even referring to machismo and meat) that you need to let out (get off the shelf), then it's OK--she'll help you do it. | |
| Descendents – I'm Not A Loser Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I remember hearing that later on, after they grew up, Milo regrets and apologized for the homophobic remarks in the song, just saying they were kids then, and didn't know any better. | |
