yea i think mikee's is saying we are caged by society. with the "9-5" schedule of working life. why cant we be like the animals is an ironic question, because even the animals are caged themselves in zoos! i think the outro bit describes how we walk through life and how much society has taken it up. and clings to our path in life so much that our shoes are taken off and drowned! saying it puts us in our place and doesnt let us adventure/discover. i think shoes can also be described in the way society forces us to walk their way of life by us moving unfreely like a puppet. there i'm done it (the hum) slows us down |

the title "the trees are dead and dried out, wait for something wild" sums up a lot of mikee's lyrics. as i said in when will the forest speak, mikee sees human bonds/relationships as trees connecting. mikee describes how all relationships are braking up, and telling us were gonna have to wait (maybe a long time) to go back to good old times of fellowship. |

i think it can mean tow things branching (like trees) from similar problems. The first is that the urban world is taking over and the wild is being consumed by industry. The second is the forest is describing human unity and fellowship. Mikee is saying when will the people unite together. This makes more sense if you understand Mikee sees human relationships as trees. "Why are all the trees burning" has a double meaning, once u understand this concept, the rest of the poem can be worked out. it is quite wonderful poetry, we should do it in schools. |
