| it's pretty clear that he is talking about God. the lyrics say that God is the only thing that can depended on time after time and never fail you. Most material possessions make their way out of your life in one way or another. The same thing can be said about people, too. The words are prettier than the instrumentals, though. His voice sounds strained and too exerted. Just my opinion though. | |

i just to point out that the first time i heard this song, i immediately knew that the line "down the middle drops one more grain of sand" is a reference to an hourglass. duh. and at the end, it's definitely "one goes out, one comes in" |

| if you look at a map of NYC or Washington D.C., they make a grid. I've always interpreted the grid she lives in as either. As we all know both cities epitomize complexity and modernization. But i don't know, just a thought. | |
