Funny, for many years I thought that the last lyrics were: You're going to weep, just watch yourself... |

Incredible song. Melancholic. I think that "I did my best for you" doesn't refer to one specific person but rather to someone different in each case (dressingroom/truckstop/sleep) |

small correction: "Your dim light shines from so far away" is what Dave sings and what is written in the album's book. You're right, Dan Murphy co-wrote this song but Dave sings it anyway and Dan does the backing vocals as usual. I love the lyric "as I watched you walk away, I hoped a part of you would stay". It's a game-with-words (one of many) where he changes the usual expression "a part of me hoped you'd stay". Great music too! |

doesn't it say "I was out of pace" in the song instead of "place"? Anyway, that's just a detail. Great great song! Funny and clever lyrics. Dave Pirner might be talking in first person but I think he kinda tells the stories of 3 different people in strange situations. In the end, they feel like leaving the place without a trace. They feel ashamed and guilty and they wish they'd disappear. |
