It's definitely "tar pits." Not only does "brea" mean "tar" in Spanish, but the La Brea tar pits in LA are pretty famous. It also goes along with the opening lyrics that refer to fossils.

Like a few others, I believe the lyrics are as follows: "Words are a blunt instrument Words are a sawed-off shotgun So come on and let it out" There's clearly no "s" on the end of instrument, and it makes sense for it to be "SO come on and let it out" because that would make it correspond with the previous lines. It also sounds like there's a pause between "shotgun" and the "s" sound. I could be totally wrong though.
