that's a different protest, though... interesting, i think it must be referring to the tomato planting.

oh my goodness! this song is even better than the one before it.

these lines:

"and the snake who'd held the world
a stick, a carrot and a string
was crushed beneath the foot
of your not wanting anything"

win everything. thank God for Aaron and mwY, and for Yeshua, our blessed Savior

mewithoutYou – Goodbye, I! Lyrics 16 years ago
Now that I know the lyrics, that last part made me almost cry for some strange reason. I can listen to some of the most emotional/personal songs and not get that emotional. I think knowing that at a deep level we have to have God's Spirit in us to truly live at all, and knowing we can't move except by Him (without Me you can do nothing) just affects me in a very profound way.

Violent Femmes – Blister in the Sun Lyrics 17 years ago
Guys, guys, guys... it's too clear, don't you see?

Even if it's not about masturbation, it does fit in very well, better than how you guys are making it seem.

"When I'm out walking, I strut my stuff, and I'm so strung out... I'm high as a kite, and I just might stop to check you out."

He's relaxed, chillin' out, maybe high, strutting his stuff, actin' cool... a girl walks by and he notices her and starts checkin' her out, maybe givin' her the eye.

"Let me go on, like I blister in the sun, let me go on, big hands, I know you're the one..."

He's all, you're hot, but I gotta go (like I easily blister and need to get out of the sun). My hands will keep me company now. fap fap fap

"Body and beats, I stain my sheets, I don't even know why..."

He's beating off and staining his sheets, he doesn't even know why he's obsessed with every attractive girl that walks by.

"My girlfriend, she's at the end, she is starting to cry..."

He and his girlfriend aren't making it very well, and he's starting to just fall out of attraction to her and in with any girl that happens to walk by. She doesn't know why he's whacking off so much but apparently he's daydreaming about other chicks.

mewithoutYou – Bullet to Binary Lyrics 17 years ago
The symbolism of the whole album refers to the girl's rejection of the guy as a huge analogy for humanity's rejection of YHWH in the setting of a love story (see also Hosea). It's meant to be very veiled and poetic like the Song of Solomon. Just listen to Be Still Child. Why, for instance, does it switch from first-person to third?

Anyway, the start of the song is referring to other lovers, and how they're caught up in the deaths and passions involved in their own loves. The main characters are basically saying, "That's nothing compared to the death and passion involved in our love. Our love is so exquisite and deep that no matter where she is, I'm there, and she'll feel me. And one day you will feel me there, too."

Who's the only one who is there inside everything and closer than our very own breath? YHWH, of course! The ultimate lover.

The poem in French, I think, refers to this unrequited love and how he keeps looking to her for her to return his love and keeps changing his name constantly to find some form pleasing for her, but her continual rejection causes him to continually lose hope.

It's a beautiful song about how God would do absolutely anything to win our affection. Aaron is a beautiful man and so are the rest of the crew and they make very beautiful music.

This is so beautiful. I'm so excited for this ep. (You can play it here.

I'm wondering if his wife left him, or what? It might explain the more depressing aspects to their music lately (the last album being The Great Depression), and their two year break in between. The song "The Way You Dance" also seems to indicate this.

Oh, and I need help on that song if anyone can. I have most of the lyrics, but a couple of parts I'm confused on. Thanks.

Blindside – We Are To Follow Lyrics 18 years ago
That's touching on it. Basically it's about being held in the darkness while there is no light to be found. A Christian may feel like he can defeat the darkness for awhile, but then realizes that he loses more and more strength to as time goes on, and realizes he is to just wait it out and know that He is God. It's a quest to true humility and a deeper experience of God.

I know the feeling well of being left in darkness, confusion, despair and apathy. You feel like the world is moving on without you, and you can do nothing to help it. Until the sun comes out.

George MacDonald as this to say:

Troubled soul, thou are not bound to feel but thou art bound to arise. God loves thee whether thou feelest or not. Thou canst not love when thou wilt, but thou art bound to fight the hatred in thee to the last. Try not to feel good when thou art not good, but cry to Him who is good. He changes not because thou changest. Nay, He has an especial tenderness of love toward thee for that thou art in the dark and hast no light, and His heart is glad when thou doest arise and say, "I will go to my Father." . . . Fold the arms of thy faith, and wait in the quietness until light goes up in thy darkness. For the arms of thy Faith I say, but not of thy Action: bethink thee of something that thou oughtest to do, and, go to do it, if it be but the sweeping of a room, or the preparing of a meal, or a visit to a friend. Heed not thy feeling: Do thy work.

Blindside – City Lights Lyrics 18 years ago
No, I think it's much more meaningful in that Christ chose him to stay in the darkness for awhile. It harks back to the themes of many Christian mystics and fits in with the theme of the album well. It's about questioning one's stability in faith, what it means to them, and going deeper in one's experience of God.

The red trail in the midst of all the darkness symbolizes, to me, the blood of Christ leading him through the valley of the shadow of death.

Of course, I could be wrong. But I think that's right.

Blindside – Fell in Love with the Game Lyrics 18 years ago
This song has alot of meaning for me because I would often find myself getting caught up in things, even religion, rather than the Creator. I would be so obsessed with getting my own things done, or proving my point to someone else, or trying to be pure, that I would lose sight of my simple relationship with Jesus, and find myself basically throttling his neck, metaphorically speaking, without even realizing it. Then I wake up out of my lust-driven murder craze and realize what was going on. I was too caught up in my addiction to notice how far it was taking me. Much like what gambling does.

Genius song, really.
