This is an awesome song, as are all of David Bazan's work. It very much is a song if finding victory after many defeats. In addition, he encourages you to suffer through defeat to gain final victory. The "save your applause" is very interesting, obviously saying wait until the end to see who wins. And Winners never Quit. The most positive thing is how he wraps up, counting his suffering, failures, defeats, as a blessing. In fact, you find a greater joy, in the 2nd chance, and what you finally end up with is greater than what you would have had, if you had settled for something earlier. |

Sounds like he realizes his existence as a human is much smaller than he previously realized. Then he speculates on death, whether there is life after death. He rejects anyone answering him, because who has seen what is after death? Much like Ecclesiastes. He goes into religion a little bit at the end where he mentions that he "used to pray at night". We can infer that he didn't know why he was praying at the time nor now knows why people pray, through his final question, "why?". Instead he realizes he prayed only because his parents taught him to, and in addition questions their reasons. Theres obvious truth and hope in this song where he declares life as short, and even meaningless, as dreams are just a "dead future". Everyone dies. Yet, he wonders is there more to life than just the here and now? He comes away with no answer, but some sentiment towards how religion is incorrect. |

| David Crowder Band – Wholly Yours Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Literally made from dirt, after the fall dirty in sin, while God is holy. Humans are prone to depravity, turning away from God and worshiping idols. While we deserve death, he shows grace exemplified at least that flowers grow, and the sun rises another day on the earth. At most it is the very holy God giving his Son for death so we become counted as righteous. He goes over those two concepts in verse 2 and 3. He wraps up at the end saying he is wholly God's now, being bought with a price. | |

To me this means.. "Faultless..." The truth of God is within all of us, Romans 1:18... we don't see ourselves in the sin we really are in. "Much to my..." God's glory is the center of the universe, and his values don't orbit around that. "I stand here wondering" Just contemplating his existance "My ear is twisted..." God gave him over to a depraved mind to have no thoughts. He knows the truth of God, and that he doesn't hold to glorify him, and deep down he feels guilt and wants distance. "Enchanted Peace" Further evidence the peace is not true that he has, and he says it turns to unsatisfaction, he gets further given over to his sin and is blind, deaf. "Waiting around for some kind of peace" Some hope here of him looking for God, but still not a direct conscious knowledge of his need for God, necesarily. |
