this song is incredible. it's so honest. it's about the tear you feel between staying and leaving. settling down or being a drifter with the threatening fate of becoming an "old maid". and figurines distortion does kick, i agree orionzite. |

| Tracy Chapman – Never Yours Lyrics

this song shows an emptiness. she has so many other problems (fast car talks about family issues too) that she cant really be SOMEONES because you have to be wholly yours first. the fact that she writes "you never cross my mind, you can be sure" is ironic: shes writing a song about it. its that facade of strength that keeps her HERS, without letting anyone in. Shes saying "never yours" in two ways: 1.) shes showing her 'strength' that no one can ever own her. 2.) shes showing her sadness, that she really hasnt been his and she wishes she had the capacity to be. |

and i agree with poncho524, there is irony in the clean getaway, because it doesnt seem clean at all if there is still something left "back there" to miss. |

this is such a gorgeous song. maria has a way of making words/phrases that otherwise would be cliche, so... well, NOT cliche.
favorite line:
It felt just like love
Except no fear of losing
and it wasn't tough |

this song is so beautiful, im surprised no one has commented on it yet. some of the lyrics are cliche, but the last lines-- "I thought that freedom
Can only be defined as endless choice/ And I only listened to the logic of the loudest voice" is such a powerful lyric. its as though we have endless choices, but we never seize them because we're caught in the most powerful, but the most true. lovely lovely. |

i don't know how no one has commented on this song yet... it's awesome. it has the james bond undertone action, along with killer vocals.
"at least there's some truth to the fact that you know I just cannot fake it." big fan of that line. |
