this song totally has something to do with jesse lacey and john nolan. on the contrary, some parts of the song can also have nothing to do with the two. confused? "Passed out in our school clothes so we'd wake up in our Sunday's best" --totally taken out of Brand New's Soco Amaretto Lime. "I never asked for your opinion I just got it and I get We move slow like daytime drama and I'm boring like his songs" --could be that Jesse might have tried to step in and talk to the 2 about their problems but Adam thought "this isn't your business". "So while I'm takin' you for granted we'll be hummin' along" --John felt that Adam was taking him for granted (which can be reinforced by some of Straylight Run's lyrics) while all Adam wanted to do is play music. "This glass house is burning down You light the match I'll stick around" --Adam could be saying "ok, this band's falling apart. you can choose to let it, but i'm not going anywhere and i'm not giving up." "I'll give you everything you want and wish the worst on what I was" --Adam could be saying, "alright John, have it all your way. i'm sick of this so i'll just leave myself out of it. i just want to play music, i don't even care what kind anymore." on the other hand, some of the lyrics in the song seem like they have nothing to do with John, again reinforcing my belief that none of the songs on this album are completely directed towards Straylight Run but are always brilliantly connected to them. Adam and Fred make a tremendously talented duo. |

i think the meaning of this song is pretty much summed up by previous posts but i disagree on one aspect: some ppl are saying this song is about a girl and has nothing to do with straylight run or john nolan in particular. -well imo, i think u might be only partially correct. i believe that all the songs on WYWTB can in some way be tied in with John, however... it doesn't mean that it's the only thing each song is about. it seems like each song could have been written about completely random events that we probably will NEVER know about but in a completely subtle/genious/clever way, the writer (most probably Adam) has slipped in a little something for John in each track. not every song is about a girl. i think they have grown out of that "phase" in this album. also for the record... jesse lacey, john nolan, & adam lazzara are all equally talented lyrically. just because adam doesn't utilize a more exquisite vocabulary in his songs doesn't mean they aren't as deep in their meanings. (besides, imagine the caliber of ingenuity an album would have if these 3 could somehow get passed differences and collaborate together for a "one night stand"???) imagine: jesse & john's lyrical genious, adam's catchy vocals, & fred's instrumental brilliance all combined into a mega-album. it could easily give birth to a second awakening for rock and a new genre of itself. side point: i bet john left because he was feeling that tbs's sound was getting washed out with all the 'copycats' that soon followed and wanted to slow things down a bit with a more indie sound. i wonder how it made him feel when he discovered that you could in fact evolve a new sound out of the post-hardcore rock genre when "louder now" came out, without having to "go indie". i hate how ppl think you have to sound different or use unusual instruments just to be different. louder now totally proved everyone wrong by screaming: "WE'RE STILL HERE BIOOOTCH." don't get me wrong, i love straylight run too, just... in a different way. ;) |
