I think this song is all about non-conformity, and rebellion against the mainstream and 'vogue'. "Where a number is your name" - In mainstream society it could be seen that people are simply numbers rather than unique individuals. kinda like one death is a tragedy, a thousand is a statistic. "Is it what you wanna see Or just a cuddy toy The vogue has washed the ashore" - i think this means the character in the song, or even the listener, is becoming just a 'cuddle toy', or an object moulded by society, which can be seen in 'the vogue has washed ashore'. In the next verse the protagonist rejects conformity and 'strikes out for paradise', or the assumed paradise of popular/mainstream society. They break out and go there own way in life. The next verse i think is all about society trying to alienate the protagonist because they don't fit the 'mould' of their society, and won't accept them untill they conform - "Then they reap you When you're beautiful enough In their eyes" and "To break down the freak They don't you to be". so yeah, i think this song is all about non-conformity and making your own way through life rather than following the rule of someone else. |

| This is a really interesting song, and one that i have found to have multiple meaning, however, the main one i think of when listening to it comes from the chorus about standing up for yourself, being your own person and not caring what other people think about you. This is a common theme in Tobias Sammet's lyrics. But also, i like to think of it as a parody of 'The Pied Piper' fairytale, and the influence one can have on someone else. In the fairytale the Pied Pipers music enchants crowds of people and they follow him everywhere, much as the same way this song could be seen as the piper being the devil, and people being influenced to follow him - 'I got you hypnotised' - there is much more but i'll leave it at that and see what you think. | |

| wow - i never thought of it that way. But having recently studied this part of the bible and applying it to the song it really makes sense! i also think it can be interpreted as standing up for yourslef and your beliefs, but in essence, this is what the Israelites did in Egypt, so yeah, thanks 'hunt hell', you've given me a new appreciation for the song | |
