K's Choice – Not An Addict Lyrics 18 years ago
As a recovering addict I believe this is a very articulate way of describing addiction. The chorus "I'm not an addict it's cool I feel alive. I feel alive. If you don't have it you're on the other side. I'm not an addict, maybe, that's a lie." The first few lines are about denial and basically if it feels this good then its not bad. But then she kind of gets a 'moment of clarity' and considers that she may be an addict afterall. The part about if you don't have it you're on the other side is basically saying if you're not a junkie you don't understand and are against her.

"Breath it in and breath it out
and pass it on it's almost out
We're so creative and so much more
We're high above, but on the floor"

The first 2 lines are about doing drugs and how they never last forever. Perhaps the 3rd line is about the manipulative thinking of an addict. The fourth is quite obvious. They are high off their faces but they are just sitting on the floor doing nothing.

"It's over now, I'm cold, alone
I'm just a person on my own
Nothing means a thing to me
Oh, nothing means a thing to me"

1st line is about when you aren't high anymore what happens. No friends or family and not even the drug can help you because it doesn't come free. All you care about at that point is getting the next hit. You will do anything to get it.

"Free me, leave me
Watch me as I'm going down
Free me, see me
Look at me I'm falling
And I'm falling........."

This part is about how when you hit a bottom and you want help but at the same time you want to keep using. Falling indicates that she keeps using until she hits 'rock bottom' which could be jails, institutions or death.

And that is my interpretation. I absolutely ADORE this song. I can relate to it on EVERY level.
