I'm going to go out on a limb and say this song has a very Fahrenheit 451 feel. Y'know, the book. There's an actual line in the book that says "Who's got a match!", and the whole book is about burning things, hence the chorus. "A series of facts that don't compute the classic way" is a lot like how everyone in the book just enjoys facts that never change, so you can feel smart, but not intellectual (which is considered an insult). If the beginning of the song is supposed to be like Hamlet, that also makes sense because they mentioned how Hamlet is just a myth. Every copy is gone, that is. "How do you capture a photograph" is like what one character says. Photos came into play, then movies, things got mass, and books became obsolete. "Pretend you're having a laugh" because no one is truly happy. I'm obviously reading too much into this, but it couldn't be helped! :D |

I love this song =] Funny how it's not listed under Jordan because technically, she's the one who put this song out as a single XD It definitely isn't the right song for Blake to be singing and I'm surprised two guys wrote this song, but whatever :P I think I cried when I heard him sing it, but I'm just a loser like that. It's obvious what this song is about, but I guess to me it's about someone who was always living in the past, dwelling on it in fact, and realizing that the only time to be living in is the here and now. Many people care about him/her and it's just a great time to be alive =] |

This is one of my favorite AFI songs, for sure :] It's so full of sorrow and pain and you get all the emotions he's trying to convey cleary. I think, personally, that Davey or the one he is singing about is simply alone. He will stay alone and that is how it will always be. He has no one to relate to and possibly closes everyone else off because of his fear of being lonely in the end. No one really understands him and he lives each day like the last, unable to find what he's really looking for. But that's just me =P |
