Elliott Smith – All Cleaned Out Lyrics 15 years ago
Ok I thought he sang "drink", "front", and "stung". After reading the comments here and listening again I'm debating it's "foot".

Also, he sort of sounds like he says:
"All you say is you don't want anyone around, you're not right now"

or is it:
"All you say is you don't want anyone around, goodnight right now" (which works with "dream")

I like the first translation better but don't know..

Not sure if I have a different version of this song but I think he says:

"That's a useful dream that pretended to explain"

and

"Superstition in the image of one I don't even beleive"

Great song...

To me this is basically about his addiction and depression. I think this song is really powerful and I love the way he is almost poking fun at himself for being so depressed: "You're under the veil, pretending to fail" and "That I'm a study in black, need a pat on the back" and "This is how I spend my time... lazing around, head hanging down". It has such heavy lyrics but it is delivered almost like he is detached and cynical about his situation. I think it is a really witty reflection on how people viewed him.

I first heard this song when New Moon came out. I'm not sure what it's about but I thought it might be about trying heroin for the first time. I love the melody and harmony from the one. Especially when he says: "come on back to me"... its beautiful. I'm gonna cover this song at my next show. Elliott was the man

re: MisssssMisery

A dive bar is a run-down cheap bar. They are usually pretty fun. It's like the opposite of a flashy upscale lounge. here is wikopedia's entry on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dive_bar

I signed up just to comment on this song. This is one of my favorite Elliott Smith songs, i love the slow crescendo (sp?), and the waythe song starts out quiet and pretty but before you realize it it is tense and almost uncomfortable. Amazing.

Also I would like to add that when he says he "was walking slow to a dirty dive" he was most likely talking about a dirty dive bar, as he was know to frequent those in lower Manhatten, often walking back throught the subway tunnels to Brooklyn. He was an amazing musician and i definately miss him.
