Manic Street Preachers – Rendition Lyrics 16 years ago
The line "I wish I knew what I did wrong" refers to the fact that the prisoners detained in facilities like Guantanamo are not told of the crimes for which they have been imprisoned.

Rise Against – Prayer Of The Refugee Lyrics 17 years ago
This song makes me think about the Palestinian liberation struggle and the crimes against the Palestnian people that have been committed by Israel -The Israeli state's actions have resulted in several refugee crises and the Palestinian people do not have a country which they can call home.

Billy Bragg – Between The Wars Lyrics 17 years ago
In addition, I think the song also discusses how governments are always unable to reflect the interests and needs of the working class and simply function according to the desires and perceptions of politicians - "Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor.."

Billy Bragg – There Is Power In A Union Lyrics 17 years ago
Willia05, Its only through industrial action and negotiations undertaken through trade unions that workers have been able to gain improvements in their conditions and ensure legislation that ensures basic rights in the workplace - although, based on your comments, you are probably unable to appreciate the problems workers face in the absence of unions and representation. This song lets the importance of Solidarity be known - There is power in a Union!

Billy Bragg – Help Save The Youth Of America Lyrics 17 years ago
This is also about the contrast between the ideals that America is suppossed to represent and what the country is really like - expressed best in the line 'But you can fight for democracy at home, And not in some foreign land' - all the more relevant today.

Billy Bragg – The Internationale Lyrics 17 years ago
Another classic Socialist anthem - for me this particular version is very powerful because Bragg places great emphasis on the need to overcome Nationalism and Racism which simply divide the collective working class in their struggle. Despite all the disappointments Socialists have experienced, this song is still inspiring and reminds us of why we struggle.

Anti-Flag – Culture Revolution Lyrics 17 years ago
The song is also about the culture of Capitalist society - how increasingly people are simply concerned with the purchase and consumption of consumer goods, and are unwilling to take a principled stand. The word 'Socialised' refers to 'Socialisation' which is a concept in sociology, and is basically the process by which we assume the culture and ideas of the society in which we live.

Fantastic Song.

Great song about the material and financial uncertainity and hardship working class communities face, and the lack of employment oppurtunities for young workers.

Billy Bragg – The Red Flag Lyrics 17 years ago
A powerful leftist song, it makes me very emotional whenever I hear it. Needless to say, the song is about the struggle for improvements in the conditions and position of workers and challenging the rule of the bourgeoisie. The song is timeless - it applies to all historical periods in which Socialists have given their lives in the revolutionary struggle.

Billy Bragg – Sexuality Lyrics 17 years ago
One of my favourite songs - I feel it is about challenging Society's conceptions about how we interact sexually with others, and simply living according to one's own feelings without being subject to repressive social norms that dictate that only certain forms of sexuality are acceptable. A part of left-wing politics all too often left unsaid, I feel!
